James Loving - National
Radio Text Service February 16, 2000 Brazil proved why they are the number one team in the world with a smashing 7-0 victory over Thailand in a Kings Cup match in Bangkok, Thailand Wednesday. The seven-goal difference
was indicative of the gap between the world's number one and 65th ranked
teams. The Thai squad was overwhelmed by Brazil's strength, quickness, power and depth of talent in the David verses Goliath match. This time Goliath won. The Thais couldn't bring Goliath down as they previously did with wins over Arsenal and South Korea. [ See: PETER WITHE ] Brazil had all of its stars flown in for the contest. The side included RIVALDO, the worlds top player, ROBERTO CARLOS, CAFU, DIDA, RONALDINHO, MARIO JARDEL, ROQUE JUNIOR, CLAIDIO CACAPA, EMERSON, and ZE ROBERTO. After the contest Brazil coach Wanderley Luxemburgo displayed his arrogance and ignorance. At the post game press conference, attended by primarily Thai reporters, questions were answered by Luxemburgo in Portuguese and then translated into Thai. An International English-speaking reporter requested that his question be answered with a translation in English. "That's too much," the coach said. He went on to say that having his questions translated from Portuguese to Thai was enough. He didn't want to have any questions translated in English. The reporter pursued. He asked if he could have JUST ONE question translated to English. Luxemburgo again vehemently denied the reporter's request. Well now….So much for the constructive use of time. Luxemburgo actually spent more time telling the reporter IN ENGLISH why he didn't want to answer a question in English. The time he WASTED doing so could have been better spent answering the reporter's question. The reporter decided to leave after Luxemburgo's verbal assault and directed embarrassment. As he left the room a Brazil press aid gestured in front of the polite Thai media and BEHIND THE REPORTEERS BACK for him to get out. So much for good manners and demonstrating how to be a man in front of the NICE, POLITE Thai people. How to influence people! Ohhh please….. In case you're wondering…it wasn't this reporter. Luxemburgo also refused to comment on the play of the Thai team saying that he didn't want to talk about the opponent in front of a crowd. [Excuse me…is this a secret? Is this a press conference?] So much for RESPECT and INTELLIGENCE. Luxemburgo has demonstrated that he knows nothing about either… in any language. What Luxemburgo does know is that he is CURRENTLY the coach of the world's number one team. In RIVALDO they have the worlds number one player. The Thais are gracious and hospitable people. It's easy to understand why someone would want to visit Thailand. Luxemburgo gets an A for his performance…as in A$$-hole. Oh, excuse me…let me be polite….A-HOLE. If Luxemburgo represents the attitude of Brazil why would anyone want to go there? Who needs that or his Bull-$#!t?
He also said that his players were excited about playing the
world's number one team. The Englishman related how excited he
was when he first played against Brazil. Dispite the drubbing
the Thai coach said he was proud of the way his team played and
that they gave 110%.
