Monday October 29, 2007 MOURINHO MUST GO Yes we said it in April that Jose Mourinho should depart as the coach of the Chelsea FC and become the head coach of the England national team. That story rated sixth on out August National Radio Top 10. It is no secret that Mourinho did leave the club and opposed to popular opinion it has been reported that he is interested in coaching England. We're not going to say we told you so but we will say you heard it here first. Mourinho's departure agreement is supposed to disallow him from coaching another club team in England. A national team is the perfect fit. It's not about having a direct line to Mourinho it's simply about common sense in evaluating a situation, having a solution and observing where a need is to be filled. Mourinho's attitude of fire blended with enthusiasm is just what the English national team needs. Can anyone argue that he doesn't know the players after coaching some of them and being in the EPL for three years preparing against them. He knows their strengths and weaknesses and most of all he knows the game of football. Sports

2007 Trivia Question: What do the MLB's (Major League Baseball) the World Series champion Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona and Michael Jordan have in common?
BECKHAM'S FAT POCKETS David Beckham's initial MLS season resulted in disappointment for the club in the standings as they finished out of the playoff picture. That's the bad news. The good news is the league and club made out as we predicted in merchandising and publicity. But the Beck-MAN really made out in the wallet. Beckham played in only eight Galaxy games and in total played enough minutes to slightly exceed four hours of work. It is reported that he will earn a guaranteed US $6.5 million dollars for his effort. When you do the math he earned over US $1.5 million dollars an hour. That's a good hours salary if you can get it. Microsoft's Bill Gates better take note. What I can't figure out is with all of the endorsement deals the BECK-MAN has made why he isn't representing BECK'S BEER. It's a natural fit unless he doesn't endorse the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Should this idea materialize please note and send 20% of the proceeds this way and we will employ impoverished people in Asia whom many try to get by on just a dollar a day. Justa thought. Sports

2007 (MARTIN) JOL ON THE GO(al) What can you say about former Tottenham Hotspurs coach Martin Jol's exit? Great things were expected from the side but after 10 games they registered only one win and 7 points putting them in the regulation danger zone and 18th in the standings with a 1-4-5 record. When you look at the numbers the Spurs registered 17 goals in their 10 games. Only two EPL squads had more Arsenal with 21 and Portsmouth with 19. As they say in sports you have to play good defense to win games and that was the Spurs undoing. They let in 21 goals. Only two other teams permitted more, Darby and Reading allowed 22. Prior to his departure Jol noted that the side needed to find a leader on defense. "Someone to stand in and pull the strings at the back," he stated. That someone never materialized and Jol is gone with no goal in sight.
Trivia Answer MICHAEL JORDAN: Terry Francona was Jordan's manager at Mobile in the minor league Triple AAA baseball division when Jordan quit the NBA to pursue a career in baseball. He considered the sport his first love. Jordan was out the NBA the better part of two NBA seasons during the 1994 and 95 campaigns. Upon his return he played only 17 games at the end of the 1995 season and was in shape enough to register a 26.9 ppg (points per game) average.. His baseball career was not a success. After his return he helped the Chicago Bull win three straight NBA titles in 1996, 97 & 98.. He finished his career as a member of six NBA championship teams. JIM MURRAY GOLF CLASSIC The Jim Murray Invitational Golf Classic at SilverRock Resort in La Quinta, Calif., is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 3, 2007. Jim Murray's illustrious career began at the New Haven (Conn.) Register after graduating in 1943 from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. After a stint at the now extinct Los Angeles Herald Examiner, he joined Time & Life (Time, Inc.) as the Hollywood cinema correspondent. Murray, a founding father of Sports Illustrated magazine in 1954, joined the Los Angeles Times newspaper in February 1961. He won a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1990 and was named National Sportswriter of the Year 14 times, 12 in consecutive years. Murray's outstanding work landed him a spot in the writers' wing of Cooperstown (NY) Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988. Murray died August 16, 1998. Celtic Pride is Back - A FRESH COAT Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen on the cover of the New Issue of ESPN The Magazine. For the past nine seasons, Paul Pierce has had to be a one-man band for the Celtics. With the arrival of rock stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, he’s part of a trio that can make Boston pop. Chris Broussard reports. Garnett/Pierce/Allan Quotes: * Garnett on Allen and Pierce: “I love it,” KG says. “I told everybody, ‘I’m not doing anything by myself. If I do anything, it’s going to be with these two.’” * Pierce on Allen and Garnett: “If those two make the All-Star team and I don’t, I’ll feel like I had a part in making it,” says Pierce. “If I were younger, I might be upset, but that’s not even in my blood anymore.” * Allen on winning a championship: “We have this ongoing conversation: ‘Our generation is better than your generation, our athletes are better than your athletes,’” Allen says. “We can get into this conversation because the three of us feel like we can roll with some of those cats from back in the day. But from a team perspective, we can’t talk yet. None of us. Not until we win a championship. Then we can be like, ‘Well, we would’ve got y’all in ’84.’ Until then, we can’t say nothing.” FOOTBALL’S HIDDEN STORY “Football’s Hidden Story”, an extraordinary series of human stories inspired by football, has researched and filmed the phenomenon of amputee football in Liberia, through the incredible experiences of Dennis Parker. Dennis was a beggar with one leg, having lost the other one fighting in Liberia’s 14-year civil war. Today, he is one of Liberia’s best-known celebrities; a one-legged international footballer. Amputee football has been his saviour. He started playing football, began to realise his talent and is now a star for club and country. The journey he has taken is one of the most moving examples of football’s extraordinary capacity to change lives. The Amputee Football Federation of Liberia is finding counterparts in other African nations where children have been given guns and thrust into the breach of conflict. Some of these nations will take part in the 2007 World Amputee Football Championship, which takes place in Turkey from 11 to 21 November.
