Sunday February 05, 2012 GIANTS vs. PATRIOTS continue SUPER BOWL FEVER The Bow, Wow, Woof, Woof is over! It's time to play ball you-all as they say in the southern areas of the USA. It was in the south in the city of New Orleans where Payton and Eli Manning's father Archie took a thumping during his NFL career with the team referred to as the New Orleans AINT'S as in ain't winning, The fans were so embarrassed by their performance that they wore paper bags over their heads with spaces for their eyes and mouth cut out. As music composer Jacque Brel sang and wrote those were the days my friend. It must be said that although the Aint's were terrible their only shining light was Manning who was an NFL All-Star player. Well that was then and this is now because there was some solace for the hurt that the elder Manning suffered as he father two sons Payton and Eli that went on to become NFL elite quarterbacks that won back to back Super Bowl titles in 2007 and 2008. Payton was then 2007 that defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17. Eli duplicated that feat in 2008 in leading the Giants to a 17-14 over the New (SAY WHAT!!!) England Patriots led by quarterback Tom Brady who is a three time Super Bowl winner. The Giants entered that game with a not so impressive 13-6 record against the 12-point favorite New England Patriots who were vying to be the NFL's first team with a perfect 19-0 season and a Super Bowl title. Now the table is set can Eli do it again and take over the family lead in leading a team to a Super Bowl title? His situation is worse as this years Giants aren't as giant as they were in 2008 as this season they enter the contest with a not so stunning 9-7 regular season record and 12-7 overall. The 2011 Giants are the first team in NFL history to reach the Super Bowl after having been outscored by their opponents in the regular season (394 points scored, 400 points allowed). Eli has an uphill road to travel to top his brother and the ever winning Brady. Brady is a fighter that was a back-up quarterback to Brian Griese at the University of Michigan. The strange thing is we produced a radio feature on Griese after a Michigan Rose Bowl victory where he was selected the MVP and wasn't aware that Brady existed. Since that time he has made his mark is being deemed the grates NFL quarterback ever if he can pull this Super Bowl victory that would tie him with NFL Hall of Fame QB's Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw each with four Super Bowl titles in their resume. The Patriots enter the contest with a 13-3 regular season record and 15-3 overall. The team is loaded with eight Pro bowl selections compared to the Giants two. Brady and Manning are included. The stakes are Brady has a score to settle with Eli for denying the 200 teams of an NFL 19-0 perfect season record. Eli is trying to repeat that feat and would then top his brother Peyton who holds the record for most NFL MVP awards with four. Due to an injury to Peyton that left on the sidelines throughout the season which resulted in the Colts having their worst season ever season ever without him that translated in tying them with the St. Louis Rams with a league worst 2-14 record. The Pats could win their 4th title in 11 years and that would rank them among the best of an 11 period comparable with the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers won four titles within six years and the 49ers in nine. NOTE: The NFL leads the series winning 24 Super Bowls to the AFL's 21. FATHER ARCHIE HAS THE HISTORY Eli's father ARCHIE MANNING played for the Saints for ten full seasons, none of them winning. In 1972 he led the league in pass attempts and completions, and led the NFC in passing yards, though the team's record was only 2-13-1. In 1978, he was named the NFC Player Of The Year by UPI after leading the Saints to their first non-losing season. They finished 8-8. That same year, Archie was also named All-NFC by both the UPI and The Sporting News. Manning was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1978 and 1979. He went on to conclude his career with the Houston Oilers (1982-83) and the Minnesota Vikings (1983-84), where the teams posted a collective record of 6-35. He ended his 13-year career having completed 2011 of 3642 passes for 23,911 yards and 125 touchdowns, with 173 interceptions. He also rushed for 2197 yards and 18 touchdowns. His 2011 completions ranked 17th in NFL history upon his retirement.
