a new $2.3 million youth-focused funding initiative from the
MAC AIDS Fund, designed to combat the spread of the disease
among 15- to 24-year-olds who account for more than half of

TOP 10 September -
MOURINHO, RONALDO, TOP LIST
Entertainment,
the NBA and Boxing are the new entries to the NR Top 10 sections most
visited list this month. The most significant story interest is in our
Video Beat columns eight of which made our Top 10 and 10 of our Top
12..
The impetus of that interest is a human interest story
about a young Philippine singer Laarni Losala who was a contestant
on the Pinoy Dream Academy reality show. The show selected 16 contestants
who were to be trained to be better entertainers. They lived and trained
in a house on the ABS-CBN television Network studio lot in Manila.
At the time that we took our ratings sample we had written
15 stories on the subject. Five stories on the subject made the Top
10 and seven were rated in the Top 12. Given the interest in the subject
we are extending this month's list to 12 to include all of the stories
of our reader's preferences regarding the topic.
TOP
SECTIONS VISITED
Our Phnom Penh section tops the sections most visited
list followed by the Entertainment section which bolted to the second
position making the list for the first time. Why the interest? Our research
shows former Black Eye Peas vocalist Fergie spearheading a Global
Youth Initiative for HIV Prevention may be the reason. She points out
the multi-million dollar campaign is aimed at combating skyrocketing
HIV Infection rate among 15-24-year-olds.
The famed singing group The Jacksons also made a difference
as they were honored by the performing rights organization BMI. Also
the rights to photos of Marilyn Monroe made an impact. Travel tips returned
to the list after some time away. The most interesting travel tips story
is the problems of Thailand's political unrest and the violence and
deaths it incurred as well as trains and several airports being shut
down by protesters which stranded tourists.
The NBA reentered the list after dropping off last month.
It ranked number four in July. The business section finished 10th and
our findings indicate that it was a solar energy
story stating that a new solar energy system will soon make it possible
to produce ... that provided the most momentum.
TOP
STORIES
Our top story dealt with who makes these big multi million
dollar football signing deals that have been dominating the sports pages
since Ronaldo wanted to go AWOL from Manchester United. That story is
in our Sports Notes July column. It refers to who Cristiano Ronaldo
and José Mourinho deal with. The answer is the CAA Sports and the story
is titled International Soccer Agency Gestifute Create Global Partnership
to Represent Top Talent, Including Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo
and Head Coach José Mourinho. In addition to Ronaldo and Mourinho, clients
include Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea/Portuguese National team), Anderson
(Manchester United/Brazilian National Team), Nani (Manchester United/Portuguese
National Team), Deco (Chelsea FC/Portuguese National Team), Ricardo
Quaresma (FC Porto/ Portuguese National Team), 2002 World Cup-winning
head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari (Chelsea FC). They helped orchestrate
the landmark deal that brought David Beckham to the U.S. to play for
the Los Angeles Galaxy.
But the overall greatest reader interest is our take on
the Pinoy Dream Academy's Persecution of Laarni
was the big surprise. This is the first time any one subject
dominated the list as this human interest story did. We wrote two series
on the subject the first being a four part series and the second eight.
This wasn't planned but given the abuse this young lady was receiving
on the show warranted the coverage and our point of view.
We tell it like it is and not from a fan point of view
but from a humanitarian perspective. When people are abused, humiliated
and dealt with in a disrespectful way as she was we feel that it must
be noted. She was a hard working girl who left home to strike it out
on her own at the age of 15 and worked her way through college. She
loved to sing with a hope to make a living at it and help her poor family
financially.
The story that gained the most interest in the two series
took the number five spot of the stories most read list. Since we forgot
what the story was about we reviewed the series and discovered the hook
and why we became so interested in writing this series in a story which
placed eighth on the list. The following is a portion of the article
which sums up why we continued to pursue the subject.
THE
PERSECUTION OF LAARNI -
Video Beat EXTRA August, 2008 Part 2
When
Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 came on the air in mid June I wasn't familiar
with any of the contestants and rightly so since it is supposed to be
a show about discovering and training unknown talent. From the beginning
the show had a strange atmosphere as there was a lot of bickering and
backstabbing which emanated from a privileged group of 18-year-olds
towards the over 18's. Their focus was primarily directed towards one
girl Laarni Losala who wasn't chosen at the beginning of the program
to be on a team. She was left over as no choice and assigned the team
with the last pick.
As
the mystery unraveled it was disclosed the anti Laarni group didn't
care for her hygiene. She comes from a very poor and abusive background.
For anyone familiar with third world countries the luxury of indoor
toilet facilities, heat and running water are not a part of the underprivileged
equation. They also lack the money to buy nice clothes. On the first
show we were impressed by her vocal skills when she sang In Your Eyes.
She was nervous but still delivered. The judges and mentors were not
impressed and heaped heavy criticism on her performance, placed her
in the bottom four and gave her the LOWEST GRADE of 5.17. We felt it
was excessive and uncalled for.
That planted the seed of our interest in why were they
persecuting this young lady who all she wants to do is sing, make a
decent life for herself, make money at her craft and return to help
her poor family financially.
Since we took the Top 10 survey this young lady rebounded
and the television viewers had a different point of view than her fellow
scholars and mentors. The silver lining in the Scarlet Letter type story
is that she won the contest this
past Sunday (September 15) which included a million peso prize and a
house with a lot.
As a sidebar point of interest her emotions were shattered
by her abusive family life which resulted in a broken home. Her mother
was there for her. Her father returned on the scene after she was selected
to be in the final six of the television series. He was at the final
wearing a shirt that read…. Laarni's Dad.

INTERNET
THEFT?
In researching the findings we have found that search
engines Yahoo, Google and MSN are all guilty of misleading the public.
They have linked our story information to other sites without our permission.
Those sites include Thai Visa, Washington University
in the USA and UNESCO.
We have tried to contact Yahoo regarding this matter but
there was no response. For our story on Digital
Divide Data titled Bridging The Digital Gap Yahoo linked our
information to UNESCO and Washington University web sites as noted below.

The
questions are:
1. Why would a company that is valued at billions of dollars
employ dishonest practices?
2. Who is responsible for manipulating information that
is misleading to the public?
3. Who is responsible at UNESCO in permitting the practice?
Yahoo used the same story to mislead the public to
the Washington University (USA) web site as noted below:

Our Roman Wanderaugh
columns have been linked to other web sites by all three search engines
without our permission. The most flagrant violator is Thai Visa. We
have contacted them in the past but they have ignored our request to
take our stories off their site.
All three of the mentioned search engines have used our
story information and linked it to Thai Visa without our permission.
Thai Visa actually stole our story and posted it on their site. In the
past they not only stole our Cambodia By Land
& Sea story but also used our photo. Since that time the photo is
not on our story on their site.
Google provides advertising for the site. The question
is why would a company that is worth billions of dollars resort to supporting
a web site that steals?
The information of our information page on the Google
site also had the following endorsing going to the Thai Visa site. ©2007

MSN did the same. They listed incorrect information
and linked our work to Thai Visa as noted below:

MSN also listed the headline TRAVELING AROUND on the Cambodia
Land & Sea story. It raises the question why was it necessary to
make two listings on the same story to link to the Thai Visa site?

for any other web site to use our material including soliciting our
photos to the public.
We negotiate directly with interested parties for use.
We are published in print in five languages. We do not approve of
Thai Visa using our material and all of the search engines misleading
the public to other web sites using National Radio information.
Isn't a search engines job to lead the public to the information
they seek? It is clearly stated on our National Radio web site:

The questions are:
1. Where is the integrity of these companies?
2. Why should people do business with web sites that employ
illegal practices?
3. If search engine companies render misinformation regarding
linking the public to web sites they aren't searching for while stealing
the traffic from the site the public intends to reach does that reflect
on the accuracy of the value of their business that could inflate the
value of their stock?
4. Is there an ENRON in the house?
We believe that a search engine should take the public
to the web sites they are trying to find and not misdirect them. FULL
