Friday May 27, 2011 WHAT'S UP?????? The big news this month is the shocking allegations against FIFA committee members of corruption. Our Sports Notes column FIFA'S DOWN & DIRTY written the day the press release came out took center stage and bolted up the charts to take the #1 position. It was the fastest rising story that we've had in over a year. Most of the major media got on the story the following day. We took a survey last week on the 22nd but didn't release the results. Today May 27th we updated that list. Between the two reviews there was a drastic change within a few days. The FIFA news was so strong that within the week of taking our previous sample it overtook our May Sports Notes column CAMBODIA'S MYSTERIOUS RISE IN THE FIFA RANKINGS that we published in March. There appears to be a thread of interest between the two columns. Our Video Beat column of television and video reviews attracted the most attention notching five of the NR Top 10 story positions. Sports ranked second with two Sports Notes columns on the charts and one NBA Beat column on Yao Ming. Our Phnom Penh column notched one spot and the 2010 Year in review Part 2 secured the other. The 2010 Year In Review Part 2 took the third spot. It features our year's top story of former US Vice President Dick Cheney paying a $250 million plea bargain stay out of jail fine. It was a story that was largely swept under the rug and ignored by the US media. The Guardian was the first to get the job done. The most revealing chart buster was a press release that doesn't count in our ratings but is worth noting that being musician, composer, songwriter, producer David Foster being a recipient of the BMI Icon Award. That story showed up in our NR Top 10 within 2 days. Another press release worth noting was FORMER COLLEAGUE REACH SAMBATH PASSES AWAY. Sambath was a well respected Cambodia journalist who made major impact to Cambodian journalism. That release reached the NR Top 10 within 10 days. New to the NR Top 10 chart is our television feature review of US comedian Jay Leno from our Video Beat column published in February. That story took a while to make the charts. Another new addition is our NBA BEAT feature on Chinese National and Houston Rockets center Yao Ming. That was another slow mover as it was published in January of this year. Last month American Idol took three NR Top 10 positions. The program makes a major impact on our charts every season. This month Idol repeated with three Idol columns reaching out NR Top 10. When the program airs our coverage and NR Top 10 results change radically. This month one of our hottest stories was our Video Beat column AMERICAN IDOL'S TOP 3 LAUREN ALAINA, SCOTT McCREERY & HALEY REINHART that reached the charts within 5 days of our first May 22nd sample and notched the 7th spot. That was followed by another Idol story AMERICAN IDOL'S YOUNGEST FINALE SCOTT McCREERY 17 & LAUREN ALAINA 16 at # 8. It charted within 3 days of our May 27th sample. The big Idol winning story rocketed up to the 10th position overnight (one day) and that honor went to SCOTT McCREERY WINS AMERICAN IDOL TITLE. The Idol host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Steve Tyler and Randy Jackson are calling him Scotty but we'll give him man respect since the high school student handled himself like a man throughout the competition. Activist/lawyer Theary Seng rushed up the charts within four days of our May 22nd sample. Seng is the protagonist in the film/doc Facing Genocide. Seng lived through a nightmare after she was taken away to a prison camp at the age of four with her mother and her four brothers. She is now working at trying to find justice for the families of over 1.7 million victims of the Khmer Rouge genocide. SECTIONS MOST VISITED Again the FIFA corruption news bolted and exploded our FIFA NEWS section to the # 5 position. It is the first time that section has made it to the charts. International Football (soccer) repeated and retains the # 1 position while Sports Notes notched the 8th spot. All sections reflect on the messy business of FIFA and the condition and the developing negative reputation of the organization and game today. Our BIZ WHO IS section returned to the charts after a month off. There are a few shifts in the ratings. Given that American Idol contest is over we are featuring 2 Top American Idol stories PRIOR to 2011 (season 10) in our Archives section. SECTIONS MOST VISITED
