NR Top 10 FEBRUARY, 2009 - A NEW DEAL
James Loving - National Radio Text Service
Our perspective of Guus Hiddink taking over the Chelsea manager's job after the sacking of Luiz Felipe Scolari rocked the second spot making it our FASTEST RISER. The biggest surprise was a Video Beat column from August 2007 taking the sixth position. The content varies but one feature that stands out is a Cambodian television network making a feeble attempt of producing reality TV shows.
Wednesday February 25 , 2009 CHANGES FOR 2009 As it turned out last months ratings was somewhat of an aberration with major changes as several NBA News and Business press releases leaped up the charts. After some discussion we have decided not to include press releases in our ratings but will mention them in the body of the article. This months Top 10 reflects stories generated by National Radio writers and contributors. With that said we must note that three NBA News press releases did reach the Top 10 those being with the November release of the NBA TV schedule for Southeast Asia which ranked number 2, followed by the January release noting that Josh Howard was the top voter getter for the All - Star game took the seventh spot and finally the November release of the All-Star game ballot notched the ninth position. All are available in our NBA section. The announcement in August the introduction to the market of the Porsche Targa automobile took the fifth spot again indicating that a large portion of our readership is up market. Back to basics of self generated stories features the January NR Top 10 review taking the top spot. Our perspective of Guus Hiddink taking over the Chelsea manager's job and playing Russian Roulette after the sacking of Luiz Felipe Scolari rocked the second spot making it our FASTEST RISER. That story was published February 14th and our sample was taken February 22nd. Another Sports Notes column noting KaKa's situation in playing for money offered by Manchester City or adhering to integrity and remain with AC Milan took fourth place. Part 2 of our 2008 Year in Review took the third spot while Part 1 took the fifth spot. Sports Notes took two of the Top 10 spots while our television critique and coverage in our Video Beat columns locked down five spots in taking positions 6 through 10. The biggest surprise was a Video Beat column from August 2007 taking the sixth position. The content varies but one feature that stands out is a Cambodian television network making a feeble attempt of producing reality TV shows. The result being they were from our experience of covering television for 30 years as producing the worst reality series that we've ever seen. That's bad. To make things worse they are currently trying it again and have the same results as being THE WORST. A surprise entry was at number nine which was our DVD reviews. It was the first time our DVD reviews attained a Top 10 position. In part the interest was stirred by the subject matter being the Beatles who are considered by many as being the best band of all time and Dream Girls a film that is largely based on the Supremes and Diana Ross made a difference. We noted that for the music enthusiast The Beatles Live at Shea Stadium is a must have in your DVD library for anyone who is interested in the group or the history of music. The Beatles perform 12 songs on the DVD. Another must have for music history is the film Dream Girls starring the eliminated in the seventh position American Idol Jennifer Hudson. This is one dynamite film that is largely based on the Motown Records group The Supremes with Hudson playing the role of Florence Ballard. TOP SECTIONS VISITED In the Top Sections Visited department the Phnom Penh section returned to the list after dropping off last month. In doing so it made a strong rebound in leaping to the number one slot. The NR Top 10 section moved up seven positions from 9th to 2nd. Four other sections returned to the Top 10 those being Travel Tips, Thailand, Sports Notes and the NFL (National Football League). Travelers concern regarding the problems in Thailand obviously has driven interest in the Travel Tips and Thailand sections. We've been issuing warnings regarding traveling to Thailand for years but it took the Coup D'Etat, riots, the Thai political protesters occupation of the airports and the continued internal political conflict and unrest to finally capture the publics eye. It's a problem that we've recognized for years. The change in managerial command at Chelsea from Scolari to Hiddink is perhaps the driving force behind the impetus for interest in the Sports Notes and Soccer sections. Our NBA Max section which is our NBA archive columns in the French language slipped off the list but only slightly in taking 11th place. Overall this month appears to be a better representation of our readership over the past 11 years. Will there be any surprises next month? Stay tuned… The Top 10 most visited sections are:
