SPORTS
ROCK - FOOTBALL RULES
This month's
sports column featuring David Beckham took the top spot and was our
fastest riser making it to the number one position after only eight
days after its release date. As Beckham-mania continues his story
of abuse from American football fans topped the list of football related
stories that charged up the NR charts. Did someone say the English
Premiere League football season is about to begin?
Asian football also hit the spotlight as our story SEA
Games $#!T Hits The Fan which focused on the problems that the Cambodian
national team faced when they were replaced from competing in the
Sea Games by a Cambodian club side who in effect became the National
team. This came about with very little notice and left many players
and coaches who prepared for several weeks to compete in the lurch
and extremely disappointed.
The continued interest in Cambodian football was evidenced
by our story Cambodia's 1st International Game on Home Soil in Four
Years which took the third position. The back story to that is the
lack of interest by the powers that be in supporting sports by providing
adequate pay and quality facilities for their athletes to play and
train in therefore Cambodian athletes and teams are inferior competitors
and dwell at the bottom of the competitions that the compete in.
Given the sad situation of Cambodian football and its
lack of development from the time that we wrote Cambodian Football
Rising from the Ashes we have abandoned our coverage of Cambodian
football.
Football continued to rule as an International story
rocked the fourth opposition involving KAKA and Man City titled MAN
CITY DEAL WENT KAKA. As we now know KaKa made the right decision and
held our for Real Madrid and is now a teammate of another defector
Ronaldo. Our story on his signing KAKA SIGNED SEALED & DELIVERED notched
the fifth NR Top 10 spot.
The first non sports story to make the Top 10 was our
2008_NR_YEAR_IN_REVIEW_Part_2 that lanced in the sixth position. This
column has been a regular visitor on the charts since it was published.
For some strange reason this month there is a heightened
interest in our Cambodian stories. In addition to the interest of
Cambodian football two of our Phnom Penh columns also made it to the
top 10. Both columns are about another failed project in Cambodia
relating to dealing with the countries young people CAMBODIA'S Freshie
Contest Muddle. It tells the tale of a once proud talent and beauty
competition that came apart at the seams after the departure of several
key managers of the show. This is also a subject we no longer cover.
Our oldest story to make the charts was an NBA story
titled Karl Malone & Gary Payton Sign With Lakers that notched the
seventh position. Both of these players have retired from the NBA.
Also that colimn also asks could Dennis
Rodman return to the NBA?
Another NBA story titled NBA's LA Clippers Turn the
Beat Around focused on the team posting its first winning season in
14 years. The column also paid tribute to former MLB player Kirby
Puckett who passed away at the young age of 45 from a stroke.
Our Archive story of the month tells the tale of the
resurgence of Thailand's National football team led by its then coach
Englishman Peter Withe who gave the team a new lease on life and the
will to win after quitting in a Tiger Cup game against Indonesia because
they were afraid to face Vietnam.
There is a mystery column that showed up in the ratings
that we no longer have in our files most notably titled NR_Top_20_4.shtm.
To find out what this is just copy and paste to your browser and take
a look.
There were five new entries in the most visited sections
including the NFL, Archives as well as the return of the Los Angeles
Lakers NBA team and Travel Tips. The 2007 Sports section made the
charts for the first time taking the sixth spot. That section is highlighted
with stories on David Beckham and Jose Mourinho. The Archives section
notched the fifth spot. The NBA took first place followed by Cambodian
Sports.
All that we can surmise from this months rating is that
due to the football season is in bloom so are our readers interests
who apparently are putting together the sports past and how it has
shaped the sports present.

Quarter April to June -
January, 2009
Part 2 - What
was hot for the quarter? Luiz Filepe Scolari dominated the quarter
taking the top story prize when he announced that it was he
and not Ronaldo who was moving on and taking the mangers post
at Chelsea. Former Beatle Ringo Starr defying all odds (particularly
mine) as he went on tour at the ripe old age of 67. David Cook
won the American Idol title in somewhat of a shocker as runner-up
David Archuleta was perceived to be the winner prior to the
votes being tallied. Talk show host Larry King continues to
be one of our top stories of interest...
