James Loving - National Radio Text Service - Thursday August 30, 2007
Most read stories for the period August 2006 to August 2007 - NBA BEAT ranks # 1 - NR Top 1- takes 2 spots - Biz Who Is with Warren Buffet Moves To It's Highest Position Ever - Jose Mourinho, Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning, Iraq National Team, Larry King & Don King Make The List - SEARCH ENGINES GUILTY OF INTERNET THEFT?
NR TOP 10 AUGUST 2006 to AUGUST 2007 The votes are in for this month's National Radio Top 10 and sports have taken six of the Top 10 positions for stories published between August 2006 and August 2007. The NR Top 10 took two spots and our Biz Who Is column notched the other two places in the standings. This month NBA BEAT took the number one spot. It's the first time the column has risen to the Top 10 let alone the number one rating. The story is about the NBA finals match-up between the Goliath's of the professional basketball the San Antonio Spurs led by Tim Duncan facing the upstart new kids on the NBA Finals block the Cleveland Cavaliers with Le Bron James leading his charges. NR Top 10 for July takes the fastest rising award to the highest position locking down the 2nd spot. That Top 10 includes DJ Ken's Phnom Penh column featuring rock star RONAN, Paris Hilton, American Idol and other entertainment stories and an inside look at what's on television through our Video Beat columns. The NR Top 10 for May continues to make the list by ranking number 4 this month. Biz Who Is featuring Warren Buffet who at that time was the second richest man in the world behind Microsoft founder Bill Gates took the 3rd spot.. Other notable entries to the Top 10 list include our Sports Notes column featuring the Iraq national team winning the Asian Cup that ranks 5th. Kings rule as they say and CNN talk show host Larry King the Biz Who Is subject for the June column ranked 10th. As explained in the story I've interviewed Larry King several times. After our Biz Who Is piece about him we reviewed one of his daily shows on CNN. He made a comment about it was Moses that parted the Red Sea and not God. That comment sounded so familiar. I knew I wrote that but after writing thousands of stories I couldn't remember what story it belonged to. In researching the rankings the story came to the surface. It was about Manchester United playing the Thai national team. With that strange King event we decided to link that story in this months Top 10 ratings chart as noted below. Was it our story that King was referring to? We'll never know. Boxing promoter Don King is a special entry since the review of an HBO telefilm about him "Only In America" made the list at the 15th position. His special notation is that story is the oldest story that has ever made it that high in the rankings. It was published in November 1997. In the overall rankings Dr. Beat Richner's story of providing free health care for Cambodian children remains in the number one spot. INTERNET THEFT? In researching the findings we have found that search engines Yahoo, Google and MSN are all guilty of misleading the public. They have linked our story information to other sites without our permission. Those sites include Thai Visa, Washington University in the USA and UNESCO. We have tried to contact Yahoo regarding this matter but there was no response. For our story on Digital Divide Data titled Bridging The Digital Gap Yahoo linked our information to UNESCO and Washington University web sites as noted below. Cambodia (PDF) 13 James Loving, "DDD - Bridging the Digital Gap of Have and Have. Notes," (by James Loving, National Radio Text Service, 8 April 8, ... www.unescobkk.org/fileadmin/user_upload/ict/Metasurvey/CAMBODIA.PDF - 117k - View as html The questions are: 1. Why would a company that is valued at billions of dollars employ dishonest practices? 2. Who is responsible for manipulating information that is misleading to the public? 3. Who is responsible at UNESCO in permitting the practice? Yahoo used the same story to mislead the public to the Washington University (USA) web site as noted below: Cambodia (PDF) 13 James Loving, "DDD - Bridging the Digital Gap of Have and Have. Notes," (by James Loving, National Radio Text Service, 8 April 8, ... www.com.washington.edu/ict4d/upload/2004052712430458_03760155.pdf - 117k - View as html WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY Our Roman Wanderaugh columns have been linked to other web sites by all three search engines without our permission. The most flagrant violator is Thai Visa. We have contacted them in the past but they have ignored our request to take our stories off their site. All three of the mentioned search engines have used our story information and linked it to Thai Visa without our permission. Thai Visa actually stole our story and posted it on their site. In the past they not only stole our Cambodia By Land & Sea story but also used our photo. Since that time the photo is not on our story on their site. Google provides advertising for the site. The question is why would a company that is worth billions of dollars resort to supporting a web site that steals? The information of our information page on the Google site also had the following endorsing going to the Thai Visa site. ©2007 Google - Google Home - Advertising Programs - Business Solutions - About Google FRONT PAGE WITH THAI VISA MSN did the same. They listed incorrect information and linked our work to Thai Visa as noted below: Thaivisa.com The latest updated Thai visa immigration news; work permit and residence permit in ... It raises the question why was it necessary to make two listings on the same story to link to the Thai Visa site? Roman Waderaugh and any other National Radio columns are only legally available on the Internet on National Radio. We DO NOT GIVE PERMISSION for any other web site to use our material including soliciting our photos to the public. We negotiate directly with interested parties for use. We are published in print in five languages. We do not approve of Thai Visa using our material and all of the search engines misleading the public to other web sites using National Radio information. Any use of these materials, whole or in part, is prohibited unless authorized in writing by National Radio. Contact: nationalradio@yahoo.com All rights reserved. The questions are: 1. Where is the integrity of these companies? 2. Why should people do business with web sites that employ illegal practices? 3. If search engine companies render misinformation regarding linking the public to web sites they aren't searching for while stealing the traffic from the site the public intends to reach does that reflect on the accuracy of the value of their business that could inflate the value of their stock? 4. Is there an ENRON in the house? We believe that a search engine should take the public to the web sites they are trying to find and not misdirect them. FULL STORY NEXT MONTH. TOP SECTIONS VISITED The top four most popular sections of National Radio continue relate to travel. our Phnom Penh column makes the list for the first time. In the following Top 10 listings we will continue to list as previous the stories that were last listed in the overall Top 10 regardless of the date they were published.
