CLEVELAND’S LeBRON JAMES AND DENVER’S CHAUNCEY BILLUPS NAMED NBA EASTERN AND WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK for games played Jan. 18 through Jan. 24.
SPOT ON NEW YORK, NY USA Monday January 25, 2010 The Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and the Denver Nuggets’ Chauncey Billups today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Jan. 18 through Jan. 24. James ranked first in the league in scoring (34.0 ppg) and second in assists (10.7 apg) while leading the Cavaliers to a 3-0 record. He was the leading scorer in every game, including back-to-back 37-point performances against the Lakers and Thunder. With two double-doubles this week, James increased his season total to 15. Billups led the Western Conference in three-point shooting (.591) and was among the top seven in the Western Conference in scoring (25.7 ppg) and assists (7.7 apg). He pushed the Nuggets to the team’s second-straight 3-0 week. On the road against the Warriors, Billups tied his career high in points (37) and set season highs in field goals made (11) and three-pointers made (six). Here is a recap of the week for James and Billups: LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers Jan. 19 vs. Toronto: Recorded a double-double with 28 points and 11 assists while adding nine rebounds in a 108-100 win over the Raptors. Jan. 21 vs. Los Angeles Lakers: Scored a game-high 37, and added nine assists and five rebounds in a 93-87 win over the Lakers. Jan. 23 vs. Oklahoma City: Earned his second double-double of the week with 37 points and 12 rebounds in a 100-99 win over the Thunder Chauncey Billups, Denver Nuggets Jan. 20 at Golden State: Tied his career high with 37 points while adding eight rebounds and eight assists in a 123-118 win over the Warriors. Jan. 21 vs. Los Angeles Clippers: Went 4-6 from behind the three-point line on his way to 20 points in a 105-85 win over the Clippers. Jan. 23 vs. New Orleans: Totaled 20 points and dished out nine assists in a 116-110 win over the Hornets. Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Atlanta’s Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson, Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, Memphis’ Rudy Gay, and Zach Randolph, Miami’s Dwyane Wade, Milwaukee’s Andrew Bogut, Orlando’s Dwight Howard and Toronto’s Chris Bosh.
