The Charlotte Bobcats’ Stephen Jackson and the Denver Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Jan. 11-17. Jackson was second in the Eastern Conference in scoring with 29.3 points per game and tied for the league lead in steals (3.3 spg; Tyrus Thomas) and was among the conference leaders in three-point field goal percentage (.529). He led the Bobcats to an unbeaten week with three wins over Western Conference contenders (Houston, San Antonio and Phoenix).

Anthony propelled the Nuggets to three wins for the week by averaging 29.3 points, third in the Western Conference, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Against Utah, Anthony scored 37 points while pulling down eight rebounds. He went 23-for-24 (.958) from the free throw line for the week.

Jan. 12 vs. Houston: Tallied 43 points on 15-22 shooting (3-5 from three), eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 102-94 win over the Rockets.

Jan. 15 vs San Antonio: Scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists and picked up two steals in a 92-76 win.

Jan. 16 vs Phoenix: Recorded 29 points, including four three-pointers, eight assists, five steals and five rebounds in a 125-99 win over the Suns.

Carmelo Anthony, Denver Nuggets

Jan. 11 vs Minnesota: Scored 24 points and went 3-for-5 from behind the three point line in a 105-94 win over the Timberwolves.

Jan. 13 vs Orlando: Totaled 27 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block in a 115-97 win over the Magic.

Jan. 17 vs Utah: Poured in 37 points, collected eight rebounds, picked up three steals and handed out two assists.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Atlanta’s Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson, Cleveland’s LeBron James, Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Indiana’s Danny Granger, Memphis’ Zach Randolph, Miami’s Dwyane Wade, New Orleans’ Chris Paul, Philadelphia’s Samuel Dalembert and Toronto’s Andrea Bargnani.
