THE RACIST BIASED VIEWS OF RUPERT MURDOCH

Sunday September 4th the OPCC (Overseas Press Club of Cambodia) presented the documentary OUTFOXED Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism at the Meta House. Murdoch's past is cluttered with controversy and scandal. The documentary Outfoxed focuses on how he ran his Fox News Division of his News Corporation in a tyrannical manner.

Employees often referred to him as the quiet assassin that used to show up unannounced and they you wouldn't know he was on the premises. Some claimed they worked in fear while others said they worked in a Stalinist system. The authoritarian is a hands-on owner that is the captain of all of his ships. He dictated what reporters could and could not say. Those that didn't' go along with his directives were replaced.

The 80-year-old Australian was heavily involved in American politics for his own political gains. He loved former president Ronald Regan and hated the Kennedy's. The network firmly embraced a right wing slant. His attacks on politicians were usually used during a political campaign. For Fox News it was business as usual. They are known to distort the facts, misrepresent and in some cases fabricate the news and views. Much of their reporting is imparted in stating that people say rather than identifying a specific source.

Former employees revealed that guests on shows who were so called experts on political subjects were on the Fox payroll with a contract. They had a Murdoch agenda to express to the public. Murdoch selected targets to be embarrassed in news reports. Former black presidential candidate Jessie Jackson was on that list.

Fox News is noted for its confrontational, loud, in your face style imparting GOP propaganda and opinions as opposed to reporting the news. News is about what happened as propaganda and opinions are about what they think about what happened. A cloud hangs over the integrity of his organization which was brought to light in July when his News of the World publication's telephone wire tapping allegations came to light in England. That was further clouded by a former employee whistleblower on the matter being found dead after the hearings began.

MURDOCH OUTFOXED had very little video footage of Murdoch himself but included numerous interviews with former employees that weren't identified and they talked in silhouette or off camera. Much of that is due to fear of reprisal or not being able to obtain another job in the business. They clearly noted that Murdoch rules the company with an iron fist and dictates policy and how interviews are to be conducted. He also is said to be unyielding about what points are to be stressed and what should be ignored in an interview. A reporter was pulled off a story after he confronted former former US Secretary of State James Baker.

NOTE: We previously noted Baker in a previous story we published on former US Vice President Dick Cheney having to pay a US $25 million fine for a bribery charge to the Nigerian government.

It was said that integrity was missing from that (Fox) organization. Fox portrayed (Former US president George W) Bush as heroic and noted that Murdoch is a politician that will further his interests as a GOP supporter.

The two most featured identified Fox employees in the film were news anchors and presenters Bill O'Rielly and Bret Hume. O'Rielly is known for challenging and verbally abusing his guests on camera. On one occasion he verbally attacked a guest Jeremy Glick whose father was killed in the 9-11 attack on September 11th, 2001 in New York City. Glick didn't have a vindictive attitude about the attack but O'Rielly pursued his vehement position by implying that Glick was without revenge of those who attacked of the World Trade Building in which thousands of Americans were killed. The confrontation resulted with O'Rielly kicking Glick off the show and called security to escort Glick out of the building.

The video made a point of O'Rielly's aggressive and attacking manner when he disagrees with a guest by telling them to shut up. On camera O'Rielly claimed that he only said that once in his career. In the documentary that statement was followed up with numerous video clips of O'Rielly repeatedly telling guests to shut up.

Former CNN correspondent Christian Amanpour said, "Viewers of Fox have an incorrect assumption about the news."

The sad result of Fox's success in their merciless style of news coverage is that competitors MSNBC and CNN began to copy their approach in order to regain the market share they were losing to Fox. The distressing aspect about that change points up to what the American publics preferences are in their preferences of what they ant to hear in the news. Apparently Americans prefer listing to confrontational and manufactured topics rather than a straight forward truthful presentation of factual information.

NOTE:

Murdoch's influence is heavily embedded in East Asian television. News Corp owns or has partners with Star Movies, Star World, the V (music) Channel, Star Sports, ESPN Star Sports, Fox Crime channel, DirecTV (30% share) and other channels in the region. The Star World channel is stating in an on air promotion that the viewers in Hong Kong (the home base of Murdoch's Asian networks) say they prefer Star Networks International channels over all other channels in the region. We weren't aware that what Hong Kong thinks dictates the tastes of East Asian TV viewers. That position represents how cheeky Murdoch's Asian PR employees are in their unsubstantiated promotional viewpoint and posture.

According to the 2011 list of Forbes richest Americans, Murdoch is the 38th richest person in the US and the 117th-richest person in the world, with a net worth of $7.6 billion.

SABAY CONTESTANTS FLEE

Within two months of the announcement of the Sabay Contest wanting to be the Grammy Awards of Cambodia 10 contestants (5 females and 5 males) in the singers segment of the event requested that their photos be eliminated from the contest. One of the dropouts is a long time favorite in the nation who has plenty of fans. From our interviews over the past decade he is the number one male vocalist of choice. The irony is that we don't understand why. The top 10 results from the SMS public voting in each of the competitions categories singers; actors and MC's were to be announced September 2nd. As of September 7th the Top 1o results had yet to be posted on their website.

The winners were to be announced December 1st. The question is why would contestants NOT want to be involved in the contest? The possibility exists that they didn't give their permission. In America the real Grammy Awards would never have anyone quit the contest which is voted on by fellow industry professionals. Is Sabay about self promotion of its products that largely sponsor the show or a qualified credible contest to find the best talent in Cambodia? Stay tuned…
