ALEXANDRIA, Va.USA -- (BUSINESS WIRE)

Thursday September 22, 2011

MANDIANT, the leader in advanced threat detection and response solutions, announced that former U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will present the keynote address at the second annual MANDIANT Incident Response Conference (MIRcon) to be held Oct. 11-12, at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town hotel.

Mr. Chertoff served as the second United States Secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2009. In this capacity, he led the country in blocking would-be terrorists from crossing U.S. borders or implementing plans from within the country. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Mr. Chertoff transformed FEMA into an effective agency prepared to deal with all hazards, as demonstrated during FEMA’s response to some of the worst natural disasters following Katrina.

Prior to serving as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Chertoff served as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and as a federal prosecutor, where he investigated and prosecuted cases of political corruption, organized crime, corporate fraud and terrorism – including the investigation of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Today, Mr. Chertoff leads a global security advisory firm, The Chertoff Group, which assists clients in addressing threats related to terrorism, fraud, cyber security, border protection and supply chain security, while also providing merger and acquisition advisory services for clients in the security, defense and government services industries.

“Incident response is an absolutely critical function of any public or private organization because today’s advanced threats are highly sophisticated, always-evolving and perpetuated by threat actors with varying motives,” Mr. Chertoff said. “I look forward to keynoting and meeting with incident responders at MIRcon, and to providing fresh insight into risk management and mitigation from a homeland security perspective.”

Now in its second year, MIRcon will build on its inaugural debut, providing attendees insight into the MANDIANT world of incident response. Attendees will participate in sessions delivered by some of the most influential voices in incident response, malware analysis and computer forensics. MIRcon is a one-of-a-kind venue dedicated to sharing incident responder war stories, accelerating the adoption of incident response best practices that speed response time and mitigate risk.

Following MIRcon, MANDIANT will host MIR Incident Response training, an incident response training class for information security professionals and analysts who respond to computer security incidents using MANDIANT’s flagship MANDIANT Intelligent Response solution.

MANDIANT is the leader in advanced threat detection and response solutions. Headquartered in Alexandria, Va., with offices in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Reston, Va., MANDIANT provides products, professional services and education to Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, government agencies, domestic and foreign police departments and the world’s leading law firms.
