Sale of Custom-Designed DQ Ukulele Benefits Children's Miracle Network

While it didn't quite reach the bidding levels of a Stradivarius violin made during Antonio Stradivari's "golden period" that sold for more than $3.5 million, a custom-designed Dairy Queen ukulele signed by legendary investor Warren Buffett -- still in his golden period -- just sold on eBay for $11,211.11.

The difference is that Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, auctioned it strictly for charity. Proceeds from the sale of the ukulele, designed to resemble a signature Dairy Queen cone complete with a curl on top, benefit Omaha Children's Hospital, a member of Children's Miracle Network.

Dairy Queen, a Berkshire Hathaway company, has raised more than $59 million for Children's Miracle Network since 1984.

The auction marked the beginning of Dairy Queen's summer-long awareness campaign for Children's Miracle Network that will culminate with the treat leader's first-ever North American Miracle Treat Day on Thursday, August 10, when proceeds from every Blizzard sold will be donated to local Children's Miracle Network hospitals.

About IDQ:

International Dairy Queen (IDQ), which is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn., develops licenses and services a system of more than 5,600 Dairy Queen stores in the United States, Canada and other foreign countries, offering dairy desserts, hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages.

IDQ is part of the Berkshire Hathaway family, a company owned by Warren Buffett, the legendary investor and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.

Following the successful roll out of DQ Grill & Chill, Dairy Queen's quick-service food concept that features an all new expanded menu and newly designed restaurant interiors, Dairy Queen began testing the DQ Orange Julius concept in August 2005.

DQ Orange Julius blends a sleek, new look with the feel of a traditional ice cream treat shop and offers an expanded treat menu that includes traditional DQ favorites, the Orange Julius line of smoothies and fruit drinks, and new signature desserts and sundaes.
