Tuesday September 16, 2008 LAARNI WINS AGAINST ALL ODDS There is a God after all. That was proved Sunday night when the persecuted Laarni Losala walked away with the Pinoy Dream Academy title after receiving overwhelming support from the Philippine TV viewers of the reality program. She won the title against all odds Sunday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Manila, Philippines. . In the process Losala went though more pain and anguish than anyone since Jesus carried the cross only to be nailed to it before dying to save sinners. Losala isn't Jesus by any means, she's just a hard working girl who suffered abuse in her family and struck out on her own at the age of 15 worked her way through college in order to survive. She loves to sing and in spite of the abuse hopes to make a living in the entertainment business to help raise her family from the depths of poverty. Laarni wasn't her mentor's favorite as they seemed to look for every chink in her amour. Many of her fellow contestant scholars chose the same tact as they constantly ripped her apart and deemed her an undesirable. The television viewers of the reality show deemed her the best singer in the bunch by giving her 35.21% of the votes (651,696 votes). When her win was announced by a representative of the SGV auditing company Laarni broke out in tears as she headed for the stage for her closing number. As she was half way through the song which she sang the previous night in the final performance show she was overwhelmed with what appeared to be disbelief and happiness. She dropped to her knees with her voice choking until she couldn't sing anymore. The shows M.C. Billy Crawford said it was an emotional night for Laarni. After he made note of her feelings she gathered herself together to sing the remainder of the song. Her victory defied all odds as the mentors rated her in the bottom four of the class four of the first eight weeks of the show. They never gave her credit for her talent. She suffered pain with each scolding criticism. She was scolded while the other scholars for the most part were corrected. She was treated differently as if she were a leper. Deemed the Independent Woman by the network Laarni sucked it up gathered her strength and continued on with her quest to be a success. The shows viewers were wise enough to recognize her talent and her grief and they voted her as being the winner. Her win earned her one million pesos (apx. US $ 22,727), a home and additional prizes. Bogoy Bogayan was the runner-up trailing by 101,936 votes for 29.7% of the votes for a total of 549,760 votes. His prizes included 500,000 pesos (US $11,363). Miguel Mendoza was third narrowly edging out a show favorite Liezel Garcia. Being third Miguel won the last of the prizes for the top three winners. He received 23,412 votes for 13.69% of the votes. His finish earned him 300,000 pesos US $6,818 plus other gifts. They say that every vote counts that certainly applied to Liezel who was selected as the top scholar the first four weeks of the show. She lost by 1/3rd of a percentage point receiving 247,346 for 13.36% and out of the money. Van Roxas finished fifth and Cris Pastor sixth. MORE BUGOY Bugoy Bogayan has an interesting background as noted on the Dream Academy web site. Bugoy only recently discovered that he had a stage-ready singing voice, and only accidentally. Coming from an impoverished family in a far-flung area in Camarines Sur, the hard-working farmer’s son went into university with the dream of earning a degree. He paid his tuition through scholarships and earned his pocket money working as janitor, dish washer and other odd jobs. It must have been a habit for Bugoy to sing while doing menial jobs. But back in the farm where only the cows and the birds could hear him, his voice went unappreciated. It took a friend, who heard him singing while cleaning with a mop, to make Bugoy realize that he could actually carry a tune. Winning school competitions soon emboldened him to dream some more and try out for PDA. FUNNY STUFF The mentors who have been teaching the scholars what and how to perform made an appearance as a group singing Earth Wind & Fire's September. It was all in good fun but in doing so they proved that they can't practice what they peach as they were out of tune vocally and out of step in their choreography. What came out of their performance is they preach do as I say and not as I do. NOTE: A week prior to the final show after three months of training and performing on a seven day a week reality show the mentors had a brain storm idea to change the names of Laarni and Bugoy. They felt that it would be better for their professional careers. Laarni's last name was changed to LOZADA and Bugoy's we didn't pay attention to. The change was made without their consent therefore we will recognize their real names that were used on the show. Should this no sense, brilliant (?) idea work and they receive work in the Philippine entertainment industry using the name the mentors gave them then we will recognize the change. For whatever reason the network seems indifferent towards Laarni and in our opinion won't get behind her and make her a star. Bugoy has a dark complexion and at this point the network has NO DARK COMPLEXIONED stars on it's ASAP show for their most talented singers and prized talent of which many who can't sing well but exemplify the networks apparent attempt of a white image. Stay tuned… THE VOTING RESULTS

OUR TOP 6 PICKS
NOTE Inaki's performance is buffoonery and reminiscent of a trained circus seal and nothing more. His voice is horrible. Laarni has talent and a big voice that other contestants often fear and admit it. A point of fact is American Idol judge Simon Cowell often remarks to a contestant 'You're performance is not memorable." This is a statement he could never make to Laarni after she sang 'Natural Woman.' It by far was the best performance of anyone on the show this season but was sternly graded and finished 3rd in the ratings for the night. Her rendition can be seen and heard on You Tube. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Laarni. The Link to the Natural Woman video will appear on the first page. Listen and you will see and hear the injustice heaped on her. Her song is memorable. Conversely Inaki is on You Tube and is accused of lying. There is also a video of him during tryouts for the show where he sings Seals & Croft's 'Summer Breeze' which he never attributed to them and says it was his arrangement. The video includes the Seals & Croft's version as well as another performer and Inaki's. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Inaki. The Link to the Inaki Lied video will appear on the first page. The following is the heading on the Google page. http://getitfromboy.net/pinoy-dream-academy-inaki-scandal/ A reader emailed me a tip saying that Inaki of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 has a scandal but not the kind of scandal that you think, lol, but the sort where Inaki lied to his teeth when he auditioned for Pinoy Dream Academy 2. The tipster sent me to a link in YouTube where Inaki, without batting an eyelash said he originally arranged his audition piece “Summer Breeze” to the amazement of the clueless judges. Just check this video below to see Inaki scandalously lying. (Note: the spelling is really Iñaki, but most keyboards nowadays don’t have “ñ” hence the change to “n”). After you see that and Laarni singing Natural Woman you can plainly see something is wrong with this show and Inaki is undeservedly involved. Why…favoritism, family connections with the network is not clear? That remains to be revealed. For an enterprising Philippine journalist or blogger that is where the real story is.
