PINOY DREAM ACADEMY FINALS OUR TOP 6 FINISHERS - Continued from Part 1 of this column Van is our last choice and quite frankly he is lucky to be in the final six. Early drop outs Jet and Ross and the eliminated Christian have better quality voices that they couldn't display due to the stress and disharmony in the Dream Academy house thus they quit. Van has flown under the radar throughout the season. The judges and mentors have been very generous in giving him high marks. He often goes off key and has a limited vocal range. The sound of his voice is not pleasing. The fact that he was on probation and selected in the bottom of the list only once throughout the season and Laarni was there four times raises the question of favoritism towards him. The original selection process of the show indicates a lack of judgment or favoritism by the mentors. One girl Poy was not selected. At the time of her auditions we couldn't understand why she wasn't selected as she sang much better than Sen, Van or Inaki. Sen and Van are good looking. Why Inaki was selected remains a mystery but his bio states that he hails from a well known family in the Philippine entertainment business. Poy was wait listed and entered the show during the sixth week but not as a regular contestant. Her job was to compete against the other scholars. She was rated in the top three four of the five weeks she was on the show. The exception was her first week in what we felt was an unfair critique of her performance. Her overall GPA of 8.59 was the third highest of all scholars trailing only Liezel's 8.78 and Bugoy's 8.72. Poy was the first person to treat Laarni as an equal and with respect. Since Poy wasn't selected as the first place finisher for three weeks while she was on the show she was evicted in week 10. Gone but not forgotten Poy's talent and high scores and performance pointed out the horrible bad selections the mentors made when they originally selected who would be on the show. Had Poy remained on the show she would easily have topped Van in been in the final six. Van's good looks are what the network likes. The network has made stars of good looking boys with not so good voices such as Sam Milby and Gerald Anderson. He's also very white looking which is what the network also favors as there are NO dark complexioned stars on ASAP or in featured television series roles. Anyone near being dark is layered with powder and make-up to the point where they almost look like a clown. This is our main concern of the futures of Liezel and Bugoy who have dark complexions. By Asian standards they are considered black. Given Poy's excellent voice and Van's lack of a good voice as well as NO VOICE INAKI gives credence that all is not right about this show. Poy should be in the final six and picked to be a regular cast member before Van of Inaki. As they say you can't cry over spilt milk but there was so much milk spilt this Dream Academy season it's as if there was a train wreck of tankers carrying milk translating to a lot of talent went to waste. Poy was much more worthy to be in the competition than Inaki. We have the same feelings about this final as we did with the American Idol final between David Cook and David Archuletta. Both were great talents, different and deserving of winning. In this Dream Academy final we prefer Laarni because as we mentioned, her superior voice. Liezel and Bugoy are equally talented and should they take the title they are just as deserving. But one thing is certain, they are the top three and no other competitor is worthy of being in those positions. If that should happen the voting results should be investigated. NOTE: The ABS-CBN Network has always done a fine job taking raw talent and making acting stars from many the contestants that appeared on their reality sows Dream Academy and Big Brother. With this season Dream Academy cast we weren't sure who has acting talent. That question was answered as show this past week the scholars performed acting skits imitating the mentors. They all did well with the most outstanding performance of Van imitating Joey Javier Reyes, Miguel as Headmaster Ryan Cayabyab and Laarni as Mentor Monet. OUR TOP 6
THE FINALS TELECAST The finals will be telecast Saturday night September 13 on the TFC (The Filipino Channel) on the ABS-CBN Network. A Gala Night performance will be telecast Sunday night September 14. The network has a history for not adhering to a set schedule so we advise you to check the time and channel in your area. OH PLEASE!!! The ABS-CBN Network is showing their colors of their favoritism towards malcontent no talent former Academy contestant Inaki. On this past weeks ASAP variety show they interviewed people exiting the Philippine theatrical production of West Side Story. And they took time to interview Inaki upon his exit from the theater. Why? Don't ask. For some strange reason he seems to be the mentors and the networks choice... for what is not clear. NOTE Inaki's performance is buffoonery and reminiscent of a trained circus seal and nothing more. His voice is horrible. Laarni has talent and a big voice that other contestants often fear and admit it. A point of fact is American Idol judge Simon Cowell often remarks to a contestant 'You're performance is not memorable." This is a statement he could never make to Laarni after she sang 'Natural Woman.' It by far was the best performance of anyone on the show this season but was sternly graded and finished 3rd in the ratings for the night. Her rendition can be seen and heard on You Tube. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Laarni. The Link to the Natural Woman video will appear on the first page. Listen and you will see and hear the injustice heaped on her. Her song is memorable. Conversely Inaki is on You Tube and is accused of lying. There is also a video of him during tryouts for the show where he sings Seals & Croft's 'Summer Breeze' which he never attributed to them and says it was his arrangement. The video includes the Seals & Croft's version as well as another performer and Inaki's. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Inaki. The Link to the Inaki Lied video will appear on the first page. The following is the heading on the Google page. http://getitfromboy.net/pinoy-dream-academy-inaki-scandal/ A reader emailed me a tip saying that Inaki of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 has a scandal but not the kind of scandal that you think, lol, but the sort where Inaki lied to his teeth when he auditioned for Pinoy Dream Academy 2. The tipster sent me to a link in YouTube where Inaki, without batting an eyelash said he originally arranged his audition piece “Summer Breeze” to the amazement of the clueless judges. Just check this video below to see Inaki scandalously lying. (Note: the spelling is really Iñaki, but most keyboards nowadays don’t have “ñ” hence the change to “n”). After you see that and Laarni singing Natural Woman you can plainly see something is wrong with this show and Inaki is undeservedly involved. Why…favoritism, family connections with the network is not clear? That remains to be revealed. For an enterprising Philippine journalist or blogger that is where the real story is.
