PINOY DREAM ACADEMY FINALS OUR TOP 6 FINISHERS The Pinoy Dream Academy has taken a page out of the American Idol format as in the final week of the competition they showcased their top talent visiting their homes as did Liezel and Bugoy. They received a warm reception from their home town fans and family. Laarni was featured singing with her chosen charity of a choir who are blind. Laarni and the choir also appeared on the number one Philippine program WOWOWWE. The rush is on for the voters as their votes will result in who will be crowned the Pinoy Dream Academy titlist. The persecution of Laarni by the mentors continues. In the past the mentors have assigned songs to the contestants with higher GPA's to compliment their voice and comment that they want to make them comfortable, relax and enjoy singing the song. With Laarni they say they want to challenge her. In doing so they assigned her Bohemian Rhapsody which is one of the most difficult songs for anyone to sing. An example of how Laarni was abused by the mentors while they give favoritism to other students is the mentors chose the songs they were to sing. When the top student Liezel met with the mentors she was told that they were going to give her a song that she could relax with to have fun and enjoy. They gave her Best Of My Love by The Emotions a song that compliments her voice and shows her commercial side. With Laarni the said they wanted to challenge her (translation - put her in a tough spot to force her out of the competition). They assigned her Bohemian Rhapsody sung by Freddie Mercury of Queen which is one of the most difficult songs anyone could sing. Mercury and American Idol's Michael Johns are the only singers that I've ever herd do justice to the song and Mercury is dead. It's a song that is so difficult that if you had the choice you would pass. Laarni didn't have that choice. It was as if the mentors were trying to kill off Laarni. The mentors have given Liezel and Bugoy commercial songs that enhance the commercial side of their talent while they assign Laarni songs that are more about challenging her and trying to expose her weakness rather than display her strong commercial talent. Her rendition of Natural Woman is exactly they type of song that shows her true commercial strength, songs that the viewing audience can relate to. The mentor's choice of Bohemian Rhapsody for her resulted in Laarni being in the bottom four. By miraculous divine intervention apparently given their guilt they saved Laarni from viewer voting which she overwhelmingly won the previous week. She was also in the bottom four during week seven and she wasn't saved by the mentors or fellow scholars and was left to the mercy of viewer voting if she would be eliminated from the program. She was up against two 18-year-olds Miguel and Apple one of her tormentors. Much to the shock of the mentors Laarni received 72.74% of the votes to remain on the show. Miguel received 13.96% and Apple 13.30%. It was at this point of being the viewer's choice that the mentor's attitude towards her changed drastically. The mentors accomplished their apparent goal of setting her up to fail. In preparation for the FINALS SHOW THE MENTORS HAVE DONE IT AGAIN. They have assigned her Earth Wind & Fire's Boogie Wonderland which was recorded BEFORE SHE WAS BORN and she probably never heard the song before. It is a song that requires an off beat attack on the lyrics. She doesn't know how to approach the material and the mentors HAVE NOT played (as seen on TV) her EW&F's record so she can get the feel of how it goes. The mentors just chastise her when she makes mistakes trying to do what they are telling her rather than playing the song and showing her how it goes. There appears to be something or someone very evil behind the way they treat and deal with her while favoring the other contestants. The bottom line is it appears that again she is being set up to fail. There is also a bit of concern why the Dream Academy chose to use the numbers for viewers to vote for. The powers that be chose not to use ID numbers that are not in sequence. This could lead to confusion and viewers can make an entry mistake thus giving their intended votes to someone another contestant that has a similar number. The numbers were quickly flashed on the screen and not repeated. It was too short a period of time for such an important vote. Was this intended or not is the question. Is it a plan of diversion, conversion or simply and inept decision? The assigned ID's as seen on the TV screen are as follows:
To win the event we chose Laarni number one given her superior voice. The choice of material for her didn't showcase her pop abilities and was a disadvantage for her. Whoever was responsible for the bad song choices did her a disservice. Her pop side was best showcased when she sang Natural Woman which can be accessed on the Internet through Google. She sang the song with strength and emotion after suffering a week of duress when other contestants were yelling at her and blaming her for almost everything wrong in the world. Laarni managed to overcome harassment from the beginning of the program and overcame many negative factors. In doing so she displayed the strength it takes to survive in show business. She was stellar on ASAP appearing on the show on two different occasions. On her first appearance she sang with Za Za Padillia and Sheryn Regis on the second. She also had a stellar performance with big voice Jed Madela on the regular Dream Academy show. Liezel has a nice pop voice and is the most commercial/pop style singer on the show. The material chosen for her was perfect for her talent. She has a stunning look and a bright future IF the network gets behind her and gives her the support and promotion she needs. She has more appeal than last year's winner Yeng Constantino who has a tomboy aura. Liezel is charming and sexy. She blended well in her appearance on ASAP with Piolo Pasqual. Bugoy has the most interesting voice of all the contestants. He also has song writing skills. Being 18-year-old and for the most part inexperienced was evidenced when he appeared on the ASAP show and sang with the first Dream Academy winner Yeng Constantino. He was nervous and seemed uncomfortable and appeared to be thinking too much. On other occasions with more experienced performers he really reached into his soul and belted out a song with true emotion and feeling. He makes the soul connection. His best effort was when he sang with Vina Morales on the Dream Academy show. With a more mature experienced performer he is more relaxed. He has a great ear for harmony. Inconsistency and a lack of experience is his weakness. His performance with Poy (a late addition to the show) was the second best (after Laarni's Natural Woman) performance on the program this season. Bugoy is well liked by the public and is the son of a farming family who are very poor. In the past the viewer voting for Philippine reality shows most notably Big Brother has favored contestants who come from the most impoverished backgrounds. Cris has improved the most of all the scholars. She is very sexy and her voice and confidence have improved as the season progressed. We select her as our fourth choice. It's difficult to tell what her future could be. She is an interior designer by trade and her inexperience in the entertainment field could be a factor in her going forward in an entertainment career. She has the look of an actress. We chose Miguel as the fifth best. We rated him higher earlier in the season but he showed his weakness and inability to sing high notes when he sang the Righteous Brothers Unchained Melody. He could have a future as a recording star but given his limited vocal range his choice of material could be limited.
