Wednesday September 10, 2008 PINOY DREAM ACADEMY FINAL SIX For reject Laarni Losala it's been a long and bumpy road that she had to travel to survive on the Pinoy Dream Academy reality show. The bottom line is she was strong enough to survive her mentors and tormentors and make it to the final six and a chance to win the top prize of a million pesos and a house for her very poor family. Laarni was never given the credit she deserves and was given the lowest grade in the first week of the program. As each of her three main 18-year-old tormentors were voted off the show by the viewing public Laarni's life became easier and her frowns turned to smiles. In the process she started to come out of her shell and projected her talent. By the end of the final grades she moved up to third overall. What stood out this past week is the final six had an opportunity to choose their order of the top six finishers and who would win the contest. The final results showed that none chose themselves lower than a third place finish. Miguel was the only one to pick himself to finish first. Of their choices Van was another who thought highly of himself by placing himself to finish third. He's a nice person but the problem is his voice is not so good. All of the three boys are from the 18-year-old group with Miguel turning 19 at the end of August. The three girls are Laarni 23, Liezel 23 and Cris 21. Bugoy received three votes to win the event and Laarni two. Bugoy won the overall rating with a score of 30 to Laarni's 29. Each first place vote is worth six points and a sixth place vote is worth one point. The numbers in the brackets next to their names is their point total.
NR READERS TOP 3 DREAM ACADEMY STORIES Since the season began we have written 15 Dream Academy stories. After two made our August NR Top 10 list we checked to see what stories maintained our reader's interest of the 15 written since the beginning of the season. The research proved to be an eye-opener as we forgot some of the events with one being the set-up of Laarni by the mentors to get her off the show. The Top 3 stories are: 1. LAARNI LOSALA'S TURNING POINT - VideoBeat_AUG_08_MAX_4th_Part_Laarni Through it all Laarni Losala had taken the ridicule that was largely instigated by Inaki and his gang of 18-year-old contestants. The verbal abuse drove the young lady from a very poor family to rebel and defend herself. In doing so she was further labeled as being the Independent Woman who was hard to get along with. The situation is reminiscent of being in grade school and the school bully picks out a weak undernourished kid with shabby clothes to pick a fight with and make an example of to show off to his friends who have the mentality of a sheep. Though he picks on a weak wounded person the bully wants everyone to know that he is a tough guy and is not to be messed with. In the process Laarni had to deal with isolation, verbal abuse while trying to study and prepare for a weekly performance show that would determine her fate if she would receive enough praise and recognition to continue on the program as each week one contestant is eliminated. 2. THE PERSECUTION OF LAARNI Part 1 - VideoBeat_AUG_08 The mentors led by head master Ryan Cayabyab came up with a plan that appears to be designed to eliminate Laarni from the contest. They pitted all the contestants in a one on one dual singing competition with the loser automatically being placed on probation and up for elimination from the show. Laarni was assigned to compete against Liezel who was selected as the best talent on the show three weeks in a row. The mentors chose the songs they were to sing. Liezel was given a popular hit song that complimented her voice and viewers could relate to. Laarni was given a song that was complex and not popular. 3. PINOY DREAM ACADEMY DISASTER - VideoBeat_JUNE_08_SUPER_MAX Among all the three jurors in the Second Gala Night, Gerard Salonga somehow stood out all throughout the show. Simply put, he was frank and quite tactless. His words were spared of a lot of sugarcoating that his co-jurors tried to maintain. It was quite hard not to notice all the comments he left because of their sharp quality. Unluckily for Sheng, she was one of the chosen dartboards. As for his over-all evaluation of Sheng's performance: he didn't like it. He said it was somehow a pretentious act. He assumed that what she had showed them wasn't really who she is, so all he could say to end Sheng's misery was "practice harder and listen to your coaches." CONTINUED - OUR PICKS AND ANALYSIS IT'S ON!!! AMAZING RACE ASIA 3 They hype was on as the third edition was introduced in a program titled Racers Revealed last week on the AXN network. Producer Michael McKay and Casting Director Priscilla Yeo touted that they were going to do something different this season for the Amazing Race Asia 3. The opening credits flashed a picture of Amazing Race USA 10 contestants Kynt and Vixen who stood out because of Kynt's resemblance to Boy George and Vixen's PINK wig as well as their pink and black tiger striped outfits. It didn't quite make us sit on the edge of our seats but it did make us wonder what are they going to do and why are they showing a picture of Kynt and Vixen who obviously aren't Asian and have previously appeared on the USA version of the program. The Amazing race Asia 3 will premiere this Thursday September 11, on the AXN Network. The Racers Revealed show introduced this seasons contestants. Yeo introduced the contestants and from what we've perceived they compliment her in being primarily (excuse me) a Gucci wearing, arrogant type of individual who frequents all of the best nightclubs with a mightier than thou attitude. The presentation was a turnoff and reeked of arrogance. This will be a show of upwardly mobile individuals from comfortable backgrounds who have means and perhaps connections for Yeo. Yeo has double degrees in Business Administration and Mass Communications, and has been immersed in the telephony and infocomm industries for nearly a decade. The information did not disclose from where Yeo obtained here degrees. The bottom line is she now is picking the contestants who are more westernized than Asian. By Asian standards they are rich and to some famous with contestants coming largely from entertainment related backgrounds ranging from being beauty contestants, actors, sports agents as well as an heiress. Yes there is no room for the little or common people on this show. The show will feature ten teams of two, with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world to win US$100,000. Season 3's cast include cousins, and a father & son team. This race features a large number of local media personalities or their relatives. Natalie (Thailand) is the winner of Miss Universe 2005 and also the wife of Thai tennis player Paradorn Srichaphan. Her teammate, Pailin, is the runner-up in 2006 Miss Thailand Universe and also contested in Miss Earth 2006. Paradorn's name wasn't mentioned on the introduction of the team program but they flashed his picture on the screen for those of us who do know his identity. It just mentioned that she was happy with her husband and marriage. WOW!!!!! I sure hope they don't need the money. Singha beer is one of the sponsors and was prominently noted after a Thai team was introduced… how clever. Tisha 32 (Philippines) is the ex-girlfriend of Survivor Philippine's host, Paolo Bediones and was once Miss Philippines but had to forgo her crown due to her Canadian citizenship. Her partner Geoff 26 mentioned last season's Philippine duo Marc and Rovilson who came in third. Marc and Rovilson were involved in entertainment related businesses and spent much of the series showing off and being borderline loathsome. At first they were funny but after several shows of the same attempt at comedy their act wore off. William and Isaac from Korea are sports commentators and football agents for professional players in the Korean K-League. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, or make that a group of 13 females who were shortchanged. Such was the case that involved Malaysians Ida Nerina, 44, and her best friend Tania Khan, 36, in, of all places, a luxury resort! Throw in a hen's party, a burnt rug, hotel management and even the police and the mixture is a potent one that shows what these two will do to get what they deserve. Recalls Ida, "All 13 of us were held hostage by the hotel who blamed us for a carpet burn that we did not cause. Even the police got involved. It was so traumatic." Khan is a Property Developer, while Ida is a famous Malaysian film actress Another contestant is a well known television personality from Malaysia Bernie 39 and her brother Henry 43. Bernie is the host of Project Runway Malaysia. Vince is a leading stand-up comedian in Hong Kong, often performing and hosting at The TakeOut Comedy Club Hong Kong, and was a finalist in Hong Kong's first nationwide stand-up comedy competition. This season consists of three non-Asians. Natalie, Vince, and Geoff are all Canadian. Additionally, Sam, who was originally from Singapore, is representing Hong Kong. Tisha was a Canadian but is of Filipino blood. The closest thing to being normal contestants is a female couple from Singapore A.D. and Fuzzie. One is a teacher and the other a free lance writer/ TV Director. It wasn't disclosed whom or what the 34-year-old A.D. has written or directed for. Given the questionable high class selections it could be something big. Another megalomaniac couple is also from Thailand. The girl claims to be a well known actress in Thailand. Her male partner says "She's a very rich girl, she's like a princess but she's NOT TOO SPOILED. The operative words here are NOT TOO. We hope she doesn't need the money for another Goochi bag or shoes. So if you want to see how the IN CROWD (who sang that song 'I'm In With The In Crowd') competes then you can catch all of these beautiful people that producer Michael McKay and casting director Pracilla Yeo have put together tune in this Thursday September 11, night at 9 PM Hong Kong/Singapore time and 8 PM Thailand/Cambodia. The series will consist of 11 episodes, two episodes less than the first and second seasons. The season finale will air on November 23, 2008. TIP… have your barf bag handy for this program loaded with what appears to be the Amazing Race Asia 3 edition of the rich beautiful people going at it and having a party in the process. OH PLEASE!!!
