Saturday October 11, 2008 IT'S ON!!! This is a big week for season premieres as three will make the scene. The Best of Saturday Night Live, America's Next Top Model with Tyra Banks and the Celebrity Apprentice will make its season debut this week. Also on tap is the final of the US presidential debates between Barack Obama and John McCain. What do US presidential candidate Sarah Palin and actress Tina Fey of 30 Rock fame have in common? The answer is the presidential debates. Fey portrays Palin on the comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL) live. As the US presidential debates are in progress and Palin is in the limelight it gives Fey more material for her act. Saturday Night Live has been a hit in America since its first telecast 34 years ago October 11, 1975. It has spawned numerous comedians to prominence including Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Bill Murray, Billy Crystal, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey (now portrays Sarah Palin) and many other great comedians made their claim to fame. Morgan also featured on 30 Rock. The first run telecasts of the US version of SNL aren't available in Southeast Asia but 30 Rock is. The equation being that regional viewers who are familiar with Fey and 30 Rock have an opportunity to view what SNL is all about as The Best of Saturday Night Live will have its season premiere tonight (October 11) at 8 PM in the Thailand/Cambodia time zone on the Star World channel. NOTE Third Presidential Debate Date: October 15 – Site: Hofstra University – Topic: Domestic and Economic Issues – Moderator: Bob Schieffer – Staging: Candidates will be seated at a table – Answer Format: Same as First Presidential Debate – Closing Statements: At the end of this debate (only) each candidate shall have the opportunity for a 90 second closing statement. Debate will begin at 9pm ET, 6pm PT USA time and last for 90 minutes. Both campaigns also agreed to accept the CPD’s participation rules for third-party candidate participation. Third-party candidates will be included if they poll 15% or above in at least 5 national polls. Each debate will be broadcast on the major broadcast networks, including CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX. They will also be aired on cable news channels such as CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and C-SPAN. - NOTE USA TIME EXTRA NOTE Saturday Night Live: The Complete First Season was released on DVD, in the UK, by Universal Studios on December 5, 2006. Upon the set’s release, some criticism of its authenticity as complete and uncut arose from reviewers and fans. This was due to the existence of original live copies, which in comparison to the "complete" episodes reveal edits and omissions which are common among the rerun versions of the shows in the set. The complete second season was released in the US on DVD on December 4, 2007 and the third season on May 13, 2008. In addition to the full season releases, there have been multiple releases both on VHS and DVD featuring the "Best Of" former cast members and guest hosts in addition to documentaries, musical performances and themed compilations of sketches as well as a release of the show's 25 year anniversary. TOP MODEL America's Next Top Model with Tyra Banks will also make its season premier tomorrow night on Channel V at 8 PM in the Thailand/Cambodia time zone. THE CELEBRITY APPRENTICE The premier of the Celebrity Apprentice (U.S. season 7) will air Wednesday night at 10 PM in the Thailand/Cambodia time zone on the Star World Channel. This show features celebrity candidates vying for the title of Donald Trump's, "Best Business Brain," with the winner donating their proceeds to charity. The series completed its run in America after it premiered on NBC Network on January 3, 2008. The show went back to its original concept of men versus women. The all-women team named their team Empresario (a Spanish term meaning "entrepreneur") while the all-men team named theirs Hydra (after a monster from ancient Greek mythology.) The contestants include famous talent from sports, recording artist, actress and models. The contestants include: * Trace Adkins - recording artist * Carol Alt - model * Stephen Baldwin - actor * Nadia Comaneci - Olympic Gold medal winner * Tiffany Fallon - Playboy Playmate/Miss Georgia USA 2001 * Jennie Finch - Olympic Gold medal winner * Nely Galán - Entertainment business executive * Marilu Henner - actress * Lennox Lewis - former heavyweight boxing champion * Omarosa - controversial former Apprentice contestant * Tito Ortiz - former UFC champion (Ultimate Fighting Championships) * Vincent Pastore - actor 'The Sporanos' * Gene Simmons - formerly of the rock group KISS and currently of his own reality TV show Gene Simmons & His Family Jewels. ANOTHER BOMB ON AMAZING RACE ASIA Another Thai actress/model Visa Sarasas (Mai) 24 wanted to quit after finishing the first leg first as well as winning US $5,000 each for a bonus prize. She was angry because her male friend Oliver Faivre 26 complained to her that having to carry her bags was too much for him. She went ballistic and yelled at him that she wanted to quit. She didn't and they have survived to be one of the final six teams. Her non competitive attitude came to a head as after not being able to complete two tasks in Taiwan she opted to sleep in the car and take a four hour penalty. The penalty means they teams will have to add four hours to their departure time then following day. This was the same tact that teams the two previous weeks hoped to avail themselves of. They were eliminated from the show. The same result occurred this past week as host Alan Wu went to the car and woke Mai and Oliver up to inform them the had been eliminated from the race. We have mentioned that the selection of celebrities who have money and have traveled a lot was a bad decision. Our opinion has turned to prophecy as three of five teams eliminated thus far this season quit doing tasks with the plan to take the four hour penalty. They all were punished for their lack of effort and eliminated. The show had 10 teams and 11 episodes planned for the season. Thus far there have been no NON ELIMINATION rounds given. A NON ELIMINATION is when a team finishes last but is not eliminated and given a pass to remain in the race. Should the show continue the same format that they have done in the past by having three teams in the final episode competing for the US $100 thousand prize and title a problem exists. With five shows done, five teams and six episodes remaining to reach to reach the 11th episode there are only two teams to be eliminated. That means there are three NON ELIMINATION passes to be issued. If the spoiled conduct continues among the remaining teams and they opt not to do the challenges with the intention of taking a 4 hour penalty THIS SHOW IS IN TROUBLE. NOTE Friends Sam 32 & Vince 32 from Hong Kong arrived first at the pit stop this week AMAZING RACE USA Ken Green and his estranged wife Tina finished first in the second leg of the Amazing Race USA this past week. Greene was a former professional football player in America's NFL (National Football League). He played safety for the St. Louis Cardinals (1978-1982) and the San Diego Chargers (1983-1984). He was born in Lewiston, Idaho, U.S. and attended Washington State University. In the 1978 NFL draft he was a first round draft pick (19th overall). A new episode is televised Monday night on the AXN Network. There are several repeats throughout the week. Please note schedule below.
