Saturday November 22, 2008 VINCE & SAM OVERCOME ADVERSITY After quitting on the last task in the semifinals last week Vince and Sam representing Hong Kong overcame a four hour penalty to come from behind and win the US $100,000 prize on the Amazing Race Asia. In doing so it wasn't easy. Last weeks failure was because Sam couldn't pull his own weight across a canyon. The 32-year-old army veteran was embarrassed by a 44-year-old actress Ida Nerina who is quite tiny in stature but she completed the task with ease. Ida and her partner Tania finished first and were the first team to depart the following day. In the world of go figure this is it. Vince and Sam caught up with the when Ida and Tania's 4 wheel drive vehicle got stuck in the sands of Oman. Second place finishers Tish and Geoff from the Philippines also passed the Malaysians during that period. After a plane ride from Oman to Phuket, Thailand Geoff and Tish were delayed by having a taxi driver who didn't know where he was going. Vince and Sam also had a problem when their taxi ran out of gas. They were saved on the road when their taxi driver waived down another taxi who took them to their next task. From that point they never lost the lead. The two losing teams lost graciously and noted that Vince and Sam were deserving winners. They played hard and did not play any dirty tricks on anyone as well as being respectful to others which in turn gained them respect from their competitors. In a weird way this turned out to be the best Asian Amazing Race ever. From our point of view there were only three teams we felt had the likeability factor that American Idol judge Simon Cowell so often refers to. Vince and Sam were one of our three favorite teams of the 10 which we rooted for. Technically the editing was more up to western standards by being fast paced and well framed shots. The tasks improved and host Alan Wu is more relaxed. Thus far Malaysia (1st race), Singapore (2nd race) and now Hong Kong have won the race. Reruns of the show will be televised throughout the week please note the schedule below. This coming Thursday November 27 the Amazing Race will televise a Memories episode which will go behind the scenes and show what the teams did during their down time off the race. That will also be repeated throughout the week. TOP MODEL SIX EPISODE MARATHON If you've missed the drama on Tyra Banks Americas Top Model TV show where a transsexual Isis King competed on the program you have a reprieve. A rerun of the first sex episodes will be telecast on Channel V Sunday November 23rd. Also of note is the participation of the first all Asian contestant Sheena Sakai who is half Japanese and Korean. Check your local listings for the time. King survived being eliminated from Top Model through four episodes. For a bathing suite shoot in episode four King wore three layers of garments under his/her bathing suite bottom to try and hold in his manhood. The concern about exposing her/himself showed on his/her face in the pictures. The judges pointed out that he/she wasn't focused on performing for the camera but more so about hiding his/her manhood. CAMBODIAN GIRL ON AUSRALIA'S MISSING PERSONS An amazing surprise occurred on this past weeks Missing Persons program on the Australia Network. A 19-year-old Cambodian girl You E Ly was involved in an arranged marriage to a 34 year-old Asian man who lived in Australia. They were married in Cambodia. Ly invited 900 guests to her reception. She was said to be from a wealthy Cambodian family. When she arrived in Australia she was shocked when she arrived at her husband's lightly furnished one bedroom apartment. She refused to go to bed. When her husband did she disappeared with a US$15,000 cash wedding gift from her father. After Australia's Missing Persons unit searched for her though immigration the day they were notified they found that she had yet to leave the country. They then went to a heavily populated Cambodian area but couldn't find her. One concern was that she had a heart condition. Before the show ended they noted that she did leave the country but didn't know where she was. They suggested to the husband that he contact her parents and inform them of the situation. Since she was out of Australia she was out of the show and to the viewers it remains a mystery what has happened to her. Missing Persons airs Thursday nights.
