Video Beat MAX Part 2 - AMERICAN IDOL FINAL
James Loving - National Radio Text Service
The JUDGES SAVE RULE should be ELIMINATED and give the voting power back to the people and let the judges be judges and NOT BE THE JUDGE AND JURY - Recommended TV Listings
Tuesday May 19, 2009 ADAM LAMBERT verses KRIS ALLEN The American Idol FINAL is this week thus bringing to a close one of the most boring AI seasons ever. The FINAL RESULTS telecast is scheduled for Thursday morning at 8 AM in the Hong Kong/Singapore time zones and 7 AM in the Thailand/Cambodia time zones on the STAR WORLD CHANNEL. The finalists are long time favorite Adam Lambert an experienced entertainer who has been trained and working in theatricals since he was a child against Kris Allen a laid back, low profile, shy, well mannered individual. The power and versatility of Lamberts voice complimented by his strong stage presence and experience give him the edge in the competition. The twist is that since Allen came within one million votes of the 88 million cast in last weeks final three competition that there could be a major upset in the making. From the beginning this season the show has been a nightmare with the production quality down and hindered by the introduction of the judges save rule in which the judges could save a contestant who was voted out by the viewers if the judges deemed the contestant worthy of another chance to remain in the competition. When Simon Cowell announced the rule in the second show of the season he mention that the rule was used once before in season 3 the year Jennifer Hudson was voted off the program while finishing in the seventh position. The irony being that they used Hudson's exit as an example when they promoted the rule prior to the telecasts indicating that she was one of several people who could have been saved. Others included Tamara Gray whom we have never seen and several others. The problem with the promotion is that the rule must be used by the final five and Hudson was seventh and NOT SAVED. The point being is why use her name as the judges at that time weren't intelligent enough to recognize her talent with Cowell adding insult to injury by telling her that she was out of her depth. The reality is the Hudson had become the most successful American Idol ever including the much touted Carrie Underwood. Hudson has won an Academy Award for her acting skills in the film Dream Girls and the music business Grammy Award for best R&B album this past year. The problem is the rule takes away the voting power of the people and puts too much limelight to the very egotistical judges. The focus on them took away the center of attention to the contestants. Because of the rule this season the show turned into the JUDGES SHOW and not THE CONTESTANTS. Should the number one rated program continue next season the rule should be eliminated and give the voting power back to the people and let the judges be judges and NOT BE THE JUDGE AND JURY. The list of contestant ratings is in no particular order
Those eliminated are noted in brackets (xx) with their eliminated position included.
