Saturday December 17, 2011 WESTERNERS HOLIDAYS CHANGE ASIAN TV PROGRAMS Television schedules will be disrupted in the Southeast Asian region due to the Westerners celebrating their Christmas Holiday season. That will be followed by the year in review programming which coincides with employees of the networks taking their holiday vacations. The question is why does the Westerner's holiday season have such an impact in Asian countries given that Asian holidays do not in Western countries? The answer could be colonialist hangover. One of the ironies is that Christmas is supposed to represent the birth of Christ the god of the Christian religion. What has transpired in the new age of the colonization of Asia is the holiday is being force fed down the throats of Asians as a season to celebrate giving. The reasons why are not clear but money must have something to do with it. It raises the question why can't Asians be proud of their own culture and not be infected by Western influence? HBO'S True Blood has been flip flopped around to accommodate the networks airing of the entire James Bond catalog throughout December. True Blood now follows the James Bond film. National Geographic's Locked Up Abroad has also been caught up in the holiday shuffle and its airing remains up in the air… somewhere. AMERICAN IDOL If all goes to plan American Idol will return to the airwaves on January 18th with their audition shows. Despite her separation with her husband Marc Anthony Jennifer Lopez will return as will Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson? Lopez proved to be a worthy replacement for the dreaded Simon Cowell. She has a pleasant personality while Cowell's is disgusting and acrid. There is no question that Lopez is better to look at. Her split with husband Marc Anthony is a personal factor to be dealt with as they have two children. He was opposed to her displaying herself in a sexy manner. He feels that a woman and mother in her early 40's should have a more reserved appearance and not be a sex idol. His role on Idol this season has not been clarified. Stay tuned for this saga to play out… SPORTS verses CELEBRITY In the USA the Kardashian family is well known from their explosive personal lives and their reality TV show. In the lifestyle department Kim Kardashian married an NBA star within a couple of months divorced. It is said that the marriage was a ploy to promote the TV show while other reports say that the NBA star verbally abused her in public. Now there is more controversy on the menu as her sisters NBA husband Lamar Odom was put on the trading block which was vetoed by the NBA. After knowing that he wasn't loved by the Los Angeles Lakers management since they were willing to trade him his feelings were hurt and he demanded a trade and it was granted. The leagues Sixth Man of the Year Award winner last season was sent packing to the Dallas Mavericks last season NBA Champions. Rumor has it that Odom's celebrity got in the way of the focus of the team as he was a gust on the Kardashian family show and then a spin-off show Khloé & Lamar which is the third spin-off of the show from Keeping Up with the Kardashians got in the way as in no celebrity is bigger than the team. Odom and Khloe's show is scheduled to return for its second season on February 19, 2012. The question is that since Odom is not based in Hollyweird how will that play out in the production? Ohh... and here's the real kicker the show was developed by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest Productions. My, my what a small world! MTV EXIT CONCERT RAISES ETHICS QUESTIONS Eyebrows are being raised at the promotion of the MTV EXIT concert in Cambodia to fight human trafficking. One of the ironies being that since US Aid is involved they are spending a tremendous amount of advertising money in publications that are not supported by the US Embassy in Phnom Penh. Is this a case that the right had doesn't know what the left hand is doing? Tickets for the event were advertised as being free for the event to take place at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh. One of the problems is that within three days the tickets were all given out BUT tickets could be obtained if one were to PAY and sign up for a cell phone service. That raises the question why are USAID and the Australian Embassy in effect supporting a private business in the name of fighting human trafficking? FIGURE THIS… We were the first to report on MTV PRIOR to its launch in 1981. At that time we interviewed then MTV president Bob Pittman. This past week Pittman was given an honor by the City of Hope. He is now the CEO of Clear Channel one of the worlds largest radio, TV and multi media networks. FULL MTV EXIT STORY FORTHCOMING BLOOMBERG ROCKS The Bloomberg television network rocks with programming for the brain. We have continually praised their Game Changers program that airs on Saturday and repeats on Sunday. The founders of Google, Twitter, the Firefox browser creator, Craigslist founder, Virgin founder Group Richard Branson , novelist JK Rowling and American Vogue editor Anna Wintour have been featured. The Wintour episode was repeated last month. The problem is that Bloomberg is not diligent with their scheduling as to identifying who their guest will be each week. It creates a hit or miss situation but either way if you don't see a topic or individual that you might have hoped for you most certainly will learn something about the movers and shakers in today's cutting edge businesses. The Charlie Rose show is another Bloomberg must watch. He has had Facekbook founder (?) Mark Zuckerberg as a guest. Rose has a nose for knowledge as last week he interviewed Marc Benhioff who is the creator of the term "platform as a service" and has extended salesforce.com's reach by allowing customers to build their own applications on the company's architecture, or in the salesforce.com "cloud". He is the author of three books, including the national best seller Behind the Cloud. If you care to know about the people behind the scenes of the way the world does business the Charlie Rose show is one to watch. NOTE: Facebook's founder (?) Mark Zuckerberg is featured on this weekend on Bloomberg's Game Changers show in a special one hour program. DID YOU KNOW Engaged couple Ernie and Cindy won the Amazing race. They plan to use their money to help the disadvantaged. VIDEO BEAT EXTRA - Part 1 - GAME CHANGERS - MARC ANDREESSEN & RICHARD BRANSON
