Video Beat EXTRA EXTRA - THE PINOY DREAM ACADEMY'S PERSECUTION OF LAARNI - Part 3
James Loving - National Radio Text Service
After being insulted and isolated from the other scholars Pinoy Dream Academy contestant Laarni had no choice but to deal with it and in the process went into herself and focused on her singing. The problem was her talents weren't respected nor appreciated by those who chose her to be in the contest…. the mentors. - Recommended TV Listings
Friday August 22, 2008 IT'S ON APOCALYPTO When they say a picture is worth a thousand words that could apply to Apocalypto a film directed by actor Mel Gibson. Last year while channel chasing a scene caught my eye after the movie had begun. I didn't know what I was looking at but couldn't change the channel. I was captured by the visuals and action. It was amazing as there was no English spoken. Watching a film with subtitles is not what I enjoy doing. I lose focus on the visual while trying to read the dialog. In Apocalypto there is very little dialog thus it is easier to follow the action packed visuals. Set in Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula during the declining period of the Maya civilization, Apocalypto depicts the journey of a Mesoamerican tribesman who must escape and rescue his family after the capture and destruction of his tribe. The film features a cast of Native American descent speaking Yucatec Maya dialogue. A strength of the film is none of the actors are recognizable thus the story is dominate. Gibson chose a cast of actors who were from Mexico City, the Yucatán, or who were descendants of indigenous peoples of Canada and the USA. It was important for the director noted that "these characters have to be utterly believable as pre-Columbian Mesoamericans." Some of the youngest and oldest cast members were Maya who knew no language besides Maya and had never seen a tall building before. Gibson explained that he wanted to cast unknown actors so that they could play certain mythic types without the audiences associating them with prior roles. The film builds to a pinnacle of intensity when the tribe is taken as prisoners to the Mayan Temples for sacrifice. These scenes will have you on the edge of your seat and your eyes glued to the screen. . Apocalypto airs Sunday night August 24 on the Star Movie Channel in Southeast Asia at 9 PM Hong Kong/Singapore and 8 PM Thailand Cambodia. This is a must watch. THE PERSECUTION OF LAARNI - Part 3 - MENTOR DISSENTERS The consternation caused by Inaki and other back stabbing Pinoy Dream Academy 18-year-old contestants towards older fellow contestant Laarni Losala created an atmosphere that was unbearable. It resulted in three students leaving the show due to stress within the first two weeks. As a viewer I found it painful and disgusting to watch. The experience most certainly raised the question why were these people treating this girl so badly? After being insulted and isolated from the other scholars Pinoy Dream Academy contestant Laarni had no choice but to deal with it and in the process went into herself and focused on her singing. The problem was her talents weren't respected nor appreciated by those who chose her to be in the contest…. the mentors. The mentors made the decisions of who was talented enough to participate. After witnessing the results their judgment comes into question. They chose people with very little talent who caused problems in the Academy from the very beginning. They chose to ignore the instigators of the problems therefore chaos reigned causing those three contestant Chivas, Ross and Jet to leave the program. The mentors continually praised the ringleader of the internal evils Inaki who had more to say about everything and very little talent to back up his incessant boasting. The mentors and judges repeatedly stated they liked his performance while at the same time cautiously avoided mentioning that his voice is horrible. He was all bark and no bite except when it came to ridiculing Laarni. Bow wow, woof, woof he never shut up and had something to say about everything. In comparison when I attended school anyone who caused a disturbance in the classroom was sent out and had to visit the principal. In this case the principal is the headmaster Ryan Cayabyab who was either too weak to do something about it, instructed not to do anything about it or on his own volition chose to ignore the harmful situation. Back in my day anyone sent to the principal twice was EXPELLED. When a classroom is in disorder the responsibility is the teachers, it is their classroom and they set and are supposed to maintain a standard of order. The problem with DA is the mentors seem to be more focused on how they perform on camera than maintaining orderliness and an atmosphere of respect. The mentors seem to suffer from megalomania. The headmaster Ryan Cayabyab is also a composer. He had the cast of the show record and an album of his compositions. It wasn't revealed if the contestants will receive any royalties from the recordings or if the proceeds will be donated to charity or go into Cayabyab's pocket. The Ryan Cayabyab Singers also appeared on the program. The show reflects a Cayabyab, Cayabyab promotion of his interests. The mentors want to be respected but much of the time they fail to respect Laarni. They treat her different than the other students. When the students were called into a room individually meet with the mentors regarding their mid term progress the mentors joked with all of the students EXCEPT LAARNI. With Laarni the mentor's body language was a stark contrast to what they displayed towards the other students with whom the joked and laughed. With Laarni their arms were crossed and they gave her a stern look. She was nervous. As they grilled her as she swallowed hard and fearfully answered. The low moral standards of the show come into question. Performance mentor Jose Javier Reyes asked all of the contestants a very odd question that you would NEVER hear on an American idol interview. He wanted to know the contestants opinions of the gay life style. Some of the students were startled by the inquiry. It raises the question what has that to do with a person's talent. If they are against the gay life style does that mean they are out of the competition or they will be graded accordingly? Reyes has a strange way of communicating. He rolled his eyes and told one student that the way he sang he wouldn't melt any panty liners. On another occasion he wore a shirt with PORN DIRECTOR written on the front as he taught a class. Yes you can say this isn't American idol standards but the question is could this be the Philippine standard? Through it all Laarni has taken the ridicule. The mentor's attitude towards her changed drastically. When she was in the bottom three for the fourth time in eight weeks (50% of the time) and up for expulsion from the show the viewers gave her a 72.74% approval vote. Miguel received 13.96% and Apple 13.30%. Apple was voted off the show. It became obvious that the viewers overwhelmingly disagree with the judges and mentors opinion about the quality of Laarni's talent. When in the bottom four and after the mentors save someone the other student contestants vote to save another student. Of the four times she's been in that situation she has received only two votes from the students to be saved and hat was in the first week of competition when the others in bottom four were Bea, Iñaki and Christian. Christian was saved by the mentors. Bea was saved by the students. Laarni and Inaki's fate was to be decided by the viewers but Chivas was expelled due to his health causing him to be hospitalized for hypertension and Inaki and Laarni were spared since it was decided that nobody would be expelled. On the other three occasions that she was in the bottom four she received ZERO VOTES from the scholars. The negativity towards her perpetrated by Inaki, Bea and Apple had taken its effect. TO BE CONTINUED NOTE Inaki's performance is buffoonery and reminiscent of a trained circus seal and nothing more. His voice is horrible. Laarni has talent and a big voice that other contestants often fear and admit it. A point of fact is American Idol judge Simon Cowell often remarks to a contestant 'You're performance is not memorable." This is a statement he could never make to Laarni after she sang 'Natural Woman.' It by far was the best performance of anyone on the show this season but was sternly graded and finished 3rd in the ratings for the night. Her rendition can be seen and heard on You Tube. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Laarni. The Link to the Natural Woman video will appear on the first page. Listen and you will see and hear the injustice heaped on her. Her song is memorable. Conversely Inaki is on You Tube and is accused of lying. There is also a video of him during tryouts for the show where he sings Seals & Croft's 'Summer Breeze' which he never attributed to them and says it was his arrangement. The video includes the Seals & Croft's version as well as another performer and Inaki's. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Inaki. The Link to the Inaki Lied video will appear on the first page. The following is the heading on the Google page. http://getitfromboy.net/pinoy-dream-academy-inaki-scandal/ A reader emailed me a tip saying that Inaki of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 has a scandal but not the kind of scandal that you think, lol, but the sort where Inaki lied to his teeth when he auditioned for Pinoy Dream Academy 2. The tipster sent me to a link in YouTube where Inaki, without batting an eyelash said he originally arranged his audition piece “Summer Breeze” to the amazement of the clueless judges. Just check this video below to see Inaki scandalously lying. After you see that and Laarni singing Natural Woman you can plainly see something is wrong with this show and Inaki is undeservedly involved. Why…favoritism, family connections with the network is not clear? That remains to be revealed. For an enterprising Philippine journalist or blogger that is where the real story is.
