Since Simon Cowell said to Matt Giruad that he didn't feel he had a chance to win the competition. That raises the question why did they save Giruad who has marginal talent but comes off as a nice guy? - Recommended TV Listings
Sunday April 19, 2009 A WASTED SAVE This season American Idol has been marred by questionable decisions. Most notably the initiation of the save rule in which the judges can save a contestant from elimination was exercised. The judge's saved Matt Giraud who has been on the bottom three twice in the past. Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai were also voted into the bottom three. Since judge Simon Cowell said to Giruad that he didn't feel he had a chance to win the competition. That raises the question why did the judges save Giruad who has marginal talent but comes off as a nice guy? Given the history of those previously selected for the bottom three by the supposedly viewer voting system (more on that later) the most deserving save would be Allison Iraheta who had been in the bottom 3 three times and Simon has commented that she has the talent to win the competition. By implementing the rule for Giraud means that two contestants will be eliminated in the next show. Since Iraheta has been selected so many times and has an apparently thin fan base she could be eliminated. Why? The save rule can only be used ONE TIME up to the final five and once used it cannot be applied again. It appeared that Rounds was setup by Cowell when he made a very biased comment to Iraheta "I think that you are the girl's only hope left right now to win this competition." Iraheta is one of the three that we feel should win the title but Cowell's comment heaped a lot on unnecessary tension on Rounds who had yet to perform and is the only other girl remaining in the contest. Iraheta opened the show while Rounds closed it out as the seventh performer of the night. She had to mentally stress out through five other performances before she went on. When she did she appeared very nervous and was pitchy in several places in her rendition of Bette Midler's 'The Rose.' Prior to the results show a poll was taken that was linked from the American Idol web page. Though it claims not to be associated with the show or 19 Entertainment the link raises suspicions of a relationship. The poll noted: So far the American Idol Top 7 Prediction Poll shows that 59% of you believe Lil Rounds should be sent home with the next closest being Matt Giraud at 18%. Rounds was in last week's bottom 3. Will she do it again this week? I would say, definitely. The report appears to be somewhat over the top and influential. Desai was the first to be called out by host Ryan Seacrest to take a seat on one of the bottom three stools. Giruad was second and Rounds third. Desai was the first to be saved followed by Rounds. Giruad then sang for his salvation while the judges huddled to make a decision. After his performance Cowell stated, "I didn't think you were as good as you were last night. I don't see where you have any chance of you winning the competition." The good news for Giraud's fans is that he was saved. The live TV audience went wild with their cheering support while some waved save Matt Giraud signs. This season the sizzle on the American Idol IMAGE steak has flamed out. There have been numerous changes along with the change of producers and the addition of a fourth judge Kara DioGuardi. There have been reports that the four judge system isn't working. Reports have noted that Paula Abdul stated that the four judge system doesn't work to which Abdul later denied and said her quotes were taken out of context. The twist is that DioGuardi moved to California from New York by Abdul's invitation and be a guest at her house. This past week only two judges were permitted to critique a performance due to a time overrun the previous week attributed to the girls Paula and Kara being blamed for TALKING TOO MUCH. DioGuardi seems to be challenging Cowell for the longest critiques award and Abdul has little to say in the way of substance while searching for something witty to articulate by quoting others as she often stands up like a groupie and dances as she did as a Laker girl (oh my!!!). She praised Adam Lambert 28 who is one of the three strongest talents in the competition as well as being the most experienced having worked in theater since he was a child. After his performance of Steppenwolf's 'Born to Be Wild' Abdul said, "Adam, fortune rewards the brave. You dance in the path of greatness. You are the bravest performer I have ever seen." Another aside is that Simon Cowell can often be heard off the microphone commenting on what Kara and Paula should be saying or to shorten their comments. Both have made terse responses.
